Merry almost Christmas/Hanukkah/Festivus everyone!

This will be the last communication from Tripwire before the new year, with some of the staff already on their way to spend time with friends and family for the holidays. But before everybody headed out we wanted to let you know how things were progressing with RO 2 as well as ask for some community input.

As you can tell by last week's patch, we continue to focus our efforts on performance and we have received good feedback and results from those efforts. Our work in this area isn't done yet and we continue to make progress every week. Lately we have been working with Even Balance to address reported issues with Punk Buster enabled servers.

But the other big thing we see and are currently working towards is "What will RO 2 be like in 2012?" I'm here to partially answer that question and request community feedback as well. If we make it past doomsday (fingers crossed here people, Eric Cartman has been wrong before) we have much in store for RO 2 in 2012. New Maps: we are working on 4 to 5 of them, prototyping at the moment, not all of them will make the cut. New Weapons: several in production, including one of the most widely requested we've seen. New Vehicles: you already know about these but I'll have more media postings on them as we start next year.

As we continue our work on performance we have also shifted towards more bug fixes and gameplay changes. As we have stated before, we prioritize what bugs to hit first based on what the community is reporting to us. We will be spending more time in this area as performance is shaping up.

We are taking a similar approach with gameplay changes. However, please keep in mind we may not agree with the loudest-voiced opinions here and that the changes will take time as we try them out and test them. Below is a list of some things we are looking at. We would like the community's opinion on what you feel is the most important. The following is a list of some, but not all, things we have gathered from the community and we feel they represent the top-requested items/changes.

Thank you for your input and happy holidays!

i've played buggier games. it's in decent shape atm, with room for improvements (which will be delivered for sure).

There are so many people who seem to have bugs, and crashes and glitches and all kind of nasty stuff going on.

I just don't know if there is any warranty of the point that nothing similar won't go on with me either.

A free weekend would be nice to allow people to find out more about this. Because I don't want to pirate it, that would just get The Scene richer(as if they don't have enough money from those adverts.

How bout balance to fix this german biased game?

1. In which case german biased?

2. In case it would be in favor of the germans (and it is not like this in my opinion):

-handle it....balancing is by numbres...

example:

germans lost against all enemy nations together their :
~45 000 armored vehicles (latest by fuel abandom/selfdestruction and final capitualtion)
and 3-5 million soldiers

russians lost:

nearly all of the 150 000 tanks and
9-21 million soldiers

Conclusion:

you get more T-34 and infantry reinforcements which may lead you to victory.

Improved chat

Improved chat

I think it would be really helpful, and help the community, if we improved the chat system. I would also assume, possibly incorrectly, that this would be one of the easier things to update. Simple things such as:

* Escape will exit chat (huge!)
* Allowing chat post-match
* Also, color-coding of teammates vs general chat, or let us customize it.

I would find these things very useful. Thanks for the updates.

Im sorry, im just not gonna let this one go, not today.
1.) Source please.
2.) By all accredited sources, German losses amounted to ~18 million men, compared to 22 million Soviet. So unless theyre bringing back the dead i find your numbers abjectly hilarious.

On topic though, glad to hear from ya Yosh. Voted realism mode myself. Enjoy the holidays!

I have to laugh about that cause of 2 things.

1.) Complaining about that i added no sources ....
but you give numbres without telling sources, too :D

2.) Did not thought it would be necessary to talk about these numbres cause in the many years i never read about others. Especially not your fantastic 18 million.

OK....but here we go:

I will add a Data sheet at the end of this thread in the attachments

But, you do not have to search a long time to find the numbres i told:

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kriegstote_des_Zweiten_Weltkriegeshttp://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kriegstote_des_Zweiten_Weltkrieges

(germans 3,25 -> 5,3 mio) (soviets 7 -> 13,6 -> 20 mio)

In case this is not enough i added some data in the attachment taken from the following Book:

"Der Zweite Weltkrieg - Analysen, Grundz

Can I please get a reply from Tripwire on whether or not we are going to see any improvement on Ping issues leading to lag, lack of Latency Detection, and Hit Detection improvement?

Will any of this be fixed or at least improved?

Majority of the competitive players and clan based crowd would like to know the answer to this because everything is riding on these three issues to decide whether or not RO2 will have any chance at providing a competitive platform for clan matches and tournament events in general for the future.

Many players including myself hope to hear back from you Tripwire,

You are also overstating soviet military casualties.
Soviets lost 8-10 million Soldiers while Germany lost 5-6 million. Most Soviet casualties ware civilian deaths. Also you may not completely outrageous Stalins reaction to German invasion , hardly fortified Soviet soldiers couldnt defend themselves against German war-machine.Also completely outrageous and infamous Stalins act "No retreat!"(or you get killed). All in all if we take all that from it yes Soviets did have more casualties , but difference isn't that big.

Also Stalingrad numbers talk for themselves.

German.
est. 750,000 killed, missing or wounded
91,000 captured
900 aircraft (including 274 transports and 165 bombers used as transports)
1,500 tanks
6,000 artillery pieces[1]:122

That's funny I think it's the other way.

People complain about team balance periodically as certain teams do better than others online. Generally, it seems to me that neither side is overly unbalanced--what matters is who is playing on what side. At the moment, it seems like the Russian teams are using better and better teamwork, while half of the German team at any given time seems to be far more concerned with kills than with capturing points.

To imply that the Soviets are actually overpowered is... unusual... given the realities of what they have access to versus what the Germans have, as well as the obvious inferiority of the T34 compared to the PIV.

You're absolutely correct that the Germans did not lose 18 million soldiers.

However, your figure of 21 million Russians quite clearly includes civilians. The Russians only drafted an army of about 30 million during the war, according to Robert Leckie's Delivered From Evil (ISBN 0060158123), many of those, as you mentioned, rear-area supply troops, logistics units, training formations, security troops, etc... A 2/3rds fatality rate, without even considering wounded, is obviously high. The true military figure should lie around 9-10 million for the soviets by all accounts (Braithwaite, Moscow).

Well now that's not very nice, some of us have jobs to go to, money to make, and families to take care of. So you must excuse me for not rushing into an internet argument as fast as my legs can carry me.

On another note, it is an argument that I do have to concede. I spoke too quickly and with a couple glasses of gin in me. The figures you have for Germany are correct, going off of my books anyways. (Mostly Charles Messenger's The Chronological Atlas of World War Two (1989))

The numbers I quoted earlier are total figures including civilian deaths and others, which I am used to quoting in discussions. Imagine that, I so rarely have an occasion to discuss actual military dead that I didn't even think of that. The primary instigation of my reaction came from comparing German military dead to these total Soviet casualties in the form of 20 million, i think it would be much fairer to compare them to the 7-13.6 figure you mention of Soviet military dead as well as Nikita's numbers up there which i have seen before.

Thus I can definitely say that you are right about the 5 mil figure, and I apologize for trying to rip your head off like that.

please, please oh please, get some latency compensation fixes done. The gunplay is currently a disaster, having to lead for individual pings, leading for the latency i have at that precise moment. It's infuriating, and the sole reason i've put down the game. Please! There

Placing mines in your ammo box
For all you people arguing off the top of my head I think the number was ~3 mil dead for Germans and ~13 mil for Russians. Only counting combat casualties/attrition.

IMO this game needs more asymmetrical balance more than anything. Out of all the options realism mode tweaks are the most important I think. Along with maps, 10 maps doesn't cut it for long.

This time i want to make it short....if you want to discuss the sources tell me!

1) The germans casualties (dead soldiers): 4,8 -5,3 mio
(all fronts against all enemies over whole time, all including even the soldiers which surrendered and died in pow/concetration camps after the capitulation of germany)

2) of these 4,8-5,3 mio the total casulaties caused by the soviets were: 3,8 mio

3) The russians made following prisoners: ~ 3 mio (the main of theses they took after the capitulation-----> the soviets took only a small numbres of prisoners during the war before the capitulation of germany because of:
not being able to build a lot of pockets; killing directly germans prisoners after they surrendered; the germans did not surrender very often)

4) of these 3,8 mio by russians caused dead german soldiers the following died in pow/concentration camps: 1,1 mio

Result:
Combat looses against the soviets: 2,7 mio
by soviets captured german soldiers who died during or after the war: 1,1 mio

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Casualties of the soviets:
There are a lot of sources, but let us stay by the official soviet numbre and a new german numbre which is in favor of the soviets.

The official soviet numbre of all killed soviet soldiers is: 13,6 mio (dead prisoners included)
A new numbre i found at wiki created by a german historical institute which is in favor of the soviets: 11,4 mio (dead prisoners included)

The german made following russian prisoners: 5 -5,5 mio (2,8 mio of them taken till 10.10.
