I've seen a couple different versions of this map floating around lately. Does anyone know if they're available to the general public yet? If so, does anyone have a link? I haven't found them here, the German, or the Polish site.

The creator of the original Debrecen - Keystone - has been without his computer and regular internet access for about a month, or slightly more. I've been in contact with him periodically and he says that none of these other versions (winter, brickyard, etc) are authorized by him :(. But what are you going to do? Once you release something into a community this large (and hungry for new content), there is always the threat that someone else will take your work (without your permission), and expand upon it for the better - or usually worse.

There will be authorized versions of the original Debrecen and Pripyat Marsh released with the AB coded ISU-152 and StuG IIIG within the coming weeks.

I do hope he takes a look at the maps that are out there. I'm not suggesting that plagiarism is in any way justified, but there have been some interesting changes made. I do hope he'll chat with the mappers who modded his work. Just the same, until he approves any of these Debrecen maps, they will not appear on RTR servers.

I would never accuse these guys of plagiarism unless they were out there claiming Debrecen as their own. However, it would be common courtesy for these guys to have contacted Keystone in advance to get his permission to use the map as the basis for their work. They didn't even take 15 seconds to do that...and that's what has him a bit upset.:( He still checks his PM's from time to time, and I know he posted on a lot of European RO boards using a different username, so he is fairly well known. Oh well, like I said, the genie is out of the bottle now...

Perhaps "plagiarism" is a bit of a strong word. "Respect" sums it up nicely, though.

I feel for him because he created the map because he felt a need for a certain map- orel-like but later war for balance and specifically for armoured beasts.
He was very specific about the type of gameplay he wanted, and imagine he's upset about unautherised versions because (asides from the lack of courtesy of asking first) he may worry they damage the idea and very reputation of his map.
(Remember that German wank-fest Orel redux and what it appeared to do to the rep of that map judging by many comments in game and on forums?)

Problem is, if you don't want your maps remade don't make tank maps. People will always wanna play with the loadouts (which are inherently unbalanced and sometimes controversial) and their reletivly simple nature allows easy editing.
Inf and Inf-heavy CA maps seem to have been safe thusfar- The desire to change them isn't there - tank maps are great but maybe their somewhat repetitive nature and rareity attracts different versions.
