I have looked pretty deep for tutorials to answer my question, but each one seems to skip this part for some reason.

I found a mutator online that is close to what I want, but I need to change a few things.

My question is how can I decompile this mutator, make changes, then recompile it?

I have tried simply editing the .u file in notepad, but as soon as I save it, it doesn't work. I have also tried running the ucc.exe file in command prompt, and it says it can't find steam and crashes.

Does anyone know how to do this, or know of a tutorial that doesn't skip this part?

Thanks very much for your help.

like yours, with the difference that I know what im talking about...

It was made years ago and it seems like he's dropped off the face of the earth...now what :p

Rewrite it from the ground, or if you can read parts from the compiled code, use it as base to actually learn what you are doing, everything else will lead to a bug-ridden piece of **** with no possibility to ever be fixed.

I would like to link you to the unreal wikis Hello World of UnrealScripting, though it seems the page is down for me currently.

It seems you are misunderstanding me here. I am not one of those server ops who have know idea what code is. I have a very advanced background in AMXX, the "Mutator equivelant" of the Half Life engine. If I made a modification, it won't be bug-ridden, and if it were, I could find the source of it and fix it.

I don't need to rewrite it from the ground. I need to change one or two lines of code. All I need to know is how to compile the mutator, and preferrably how to decompile the original.

I've read the beyondunreal wiki on scripting, and it is the perfect example of the above described tutorials that "leave out" the part about compiling and decompiling.

I fixed my ucc.exe - had to paste Steam.dll in there from the Steam directory for some reason.

That combined with the link you gave me should be enough. When I browsed the Legacy wiki, I couldn't find that page...some of the wiki is broken with a db error so that may be why.

Thanks for your help.
