72.Infanterie Division
Infanterie Regiment 105
First off I would like to outline are reasons for forming the 72.Infanterie Division. The way we see it is that there is a vast array of Waffen-SS and panzer/panzergrenadiere divisions within the Red Orchestra realism community. There isn’t a single Infanterie division, and we want to correct this imbalance.
The core of the 72.Inf.Div is made up of the ex-3.SS members. It’s a relatively small core but it contains the best from the old 3.SS, which despite all of its misgivings was a very seasoned unit. We have decided to remove all of the younger and inactive members from the 3.SS, disband the unit, and reform as a Heer Infanterie Division with the intension of creating a professional, tight nit and well drilled unit.

Very Short History of the 72.Inf.Div
The 72.Infanterie Division was formed in September 1939 by combining the Infanterie Regiment 105 and Infanterie Regiment 124 with Infanterie Regiment 266 as a reserve. The 72.Infanterie Division fought with tenacity and gave an extremely good account of itself during the campaign in France and the low countries in 1940 and in Greece and Russia in 1941. The 72nd participated in the campaign in the Crimea were it received special accolades for its capture of the Supan heights and the fort Maxim Gorky. The 72nd later went on to fight at Kursk and was encircled in the Kanev salient during the battle of the Cherkassy Pocket but managed to brake out of the pocket.

Recruitment
As we have stated we are a small group of close Kameraden and to an extent that is the way we want to keep it. We are, however, willing to take on a small amount of new recruits but please think very carefully before you apply because we do not just let any Tom Cobley into are unit. We do not ask that you are a seasoned sniper. All we want is someone who is willing to learn and most of all some who can integrate well with our soldaten.
So if you want to portray the ‘average’ soldat rather than some firing eating SS-Mann then we are the unit to join. Comradeship and esprit is what we stand for.

Apply at http://www.72infanterie.com/forums/index.php(still waiting for the new website/domain name) or drop in and see us on our game server

Everyone except jmodles is welcome on our forums. ;)

So if you would rather portray the Deutsche soldaten marching across the Russian border in 1941 than an ss-panzergrenadiere then we are the place to come. Please don’t hesitate, stop by are forums and put in an application because the fighting will begin soon and it would be senseless to miss any.

Soon the Fields of Fire campaign will be upon us and we desperately require Infanterie men to sustain our combat effectiveness. So if you think you have got what it takes to survive on the ost-front then apply on our forums.

72.Infanterie Division IV./Grenadier-Regiment.105 moved to new positions. Obergefreiter Eugen Reinhard took some pictures of this with his 35mm Leica. As a whole the past week has been quite with little russian activity apart from harassing fire from their artillery. We did however encounter a few small Russian patrols but all were beaten back, casualties have been non-existent apart from one case of jaundice.
