gautrek...

Jumping in here as I have nothing to do with the DH Team, please just answer some simple questions.

Ro runs well on your machine?
MN runs well on your machine?
Please post your system specifications and what FW/AV are you running as well as how many processes are turning in the background!

It has been noted that some maps in DH are "expensive" but this can be compensated with a little sacrifice on the players side.

Please note that giving real feedback in the correct place does cost absolutely nothing, unless you consider remembering your log in name and PW has a price.

Take no offense but please be clear and precise.
The people at DH need positive (even if its negative) feedback.

Thanks ...51...
As i have said before.
I object to having to join various forums.
The less people i sign up for the better.
This is not meant as a slight on anyone.
But i would have thought the DH guys drop by here most nights.
I have had no problems at all with RO.It runs fantastic on my machine.
CC runs absolutely fantastic on my machine
MN is absolutely fantastic on my machine. It looks awesome and plays fine.

On the other hand the odd times i have managed to get DH running it ran like a bag of poo.The lag was unbelievable the graphics were poor with aiming that seemed off.In fact i couldn't hit a bleeding barn door on DH.
So at least the fact i can't run it now has saved me the stress of trying to play it.
Is that enough info?

Something the size of Omaha is just silly.

I second that. Not to mention some spawnpoints seems to be quite odd, and lack of spawn protection is also quite amusing yet annoying.

Two days ago I saw a situation where half of the german team was spawnraping allies on east farm. It was somewhat hilarious yet frushtrating sight :D

Whats with all the negativity guys? Its a free mod. Yep, it needs work, but its a Beta.

There is a lot to sort out on many of the maps- particularly Cagny, st Lo and Omaha, and yeah the bazooka is ropey. By the same token ive had some of the most epic RO experiences so far (bar kreigstadt)- maps like Benouville Bridge, Foy and Carenten Crossroads are dripping with atmosphere and potential and with a bit of tweaking im sure we will see 24/7 servers of them.

This could be the shot in the arm that RO needs- the last thing that will encourage the DH team to keep up the good work is to stomp all over their mod.

Exocet, don't play dumb.

I will list things for you:
1. The maps are dull and lacking detail. Port-en-bessin is a good example. The terrain is flat, there's no grass. The hedgerows are ugly and annoying. At least in CC you can crawl under them. The ground doesn't look like anything other than flat sand. Towns have roads? Even if they're dirt roads, they need some sort of texture and life to them. All the buildings are ugly and bland as well. They need more life to them. They need to be enterable. They need props inside them to make them appear to be you know...like houses. The water is ATROCIOUS. Please fix that ugly bunker in the Hotel. Why the **** are there swastikas drawn all over the inside of it with "sieg heil" scrawled across the top?

2. Map objectives are confusing and very poorly conceived. Excellent examples are Merville Battery and Brecourt. Brecourt is just plain stupid. I think my favorite part of that map has to be how the Germans don't even start near the objectives they're supposed to defend. The map seems like it's just meant to be some kind of wank off to how awesome the Band of Brothers scene was. Merville battery needs this thing called "cohesion" and "spawn protection." The objectives are random and result in mass confusion as well as spawn killing by both sides. The same happens with the Omaha Beach map. The Germans end up spawning in front of an Allied tank spawn? The PaK40 near the church can only fire at a very limited angle without hitting the trees in front of it. The Higgins boats...well...they need work.

3. The MP40 needs fixing. You made the Thompson realistic, now fix the MP40. I don't care what anyone says, I know for a fact that's not what it's recoil is like.

My guess for this general negativity is because overall the mod feels still more like some early alpha than beta. It sure has alot of potential, but also alot of more or less minor or major issues that simply makes the gameplay more or less dull.

I think they get the idea that some aspects of the mod seem more like an Alpha as opposed to a Beta or final. They definately have more content than the other two mods do currently, but they aren't as 'polished' in their look or optimization.

Remember that this mod is free and your comments/criticisms will help shape the final results. Also remember that not everything can be done in a relatively quick manner.

I think the fact that some servers are running long maps several times in a row has more to do with the server and not necessarily with the mod.

Mappers can always create custom maps for DH any size they want, as I am sure some mappers are already working on....

Criticism can be good if it is a means to an end. Demands like fix this  or this sucks  really aren't that helpful. This goes with any comments for any of the mods.

Lets help make them better instead of just pissing everyone off :)

PS: It is always best if possible to post suggestions on the Mod's forums where they have specific topics relating to specific maps or specific bugs, or whatever.

Just my opinion

I agree all of your points.
The graphic and atmosphere of DH beta are quite weird and unconvincing.
One of the example is the church and ship are totally out of scale in Port-en-bessin.
I 100% understand that making such a big mod is really difficult and of course i know it is free, but compare to other free mod like CC and MN, I must say the "beta" is quite disappointing.

Unfortunately because of Foy every other DH map seems bland and unimaginative, and the bar for map quality has been raised quite high so I will never be satisfied it seems.
All good and well having maps that look identical to the movie/tv series but if they run like $#@* and play like $#@* I am in no hurry to play them.

BTW how did you manage to have the swastika in some maps and still get it played in Germany?

Its a mod... mods don't have to be sold on stores so people can get them with ease. Although German servers hosting this mod could be fined. For supporting Nazism.

To clarify : Computergames are labeld as "toys" here in germany. "Toys" cant have swastikas on them. Since games are not seen as artform or in a educational context, swastikas are banned from them. IMO they try to fiddle it out at the moment for either doing it over a mutator or whatever, for the german servers that removes the images in question. For me, i never understood why having them in the first place, or why "certain" groups are so eager to have them.

I never understand the sensitivity for them.
None of us (exceptions for 1 or 2 of us) have been in that war, it's quite irrelevant for all of us.
And yes I have thought this over very carefully.
That kind of sensitivity for these kind of symbols are a heritage from our parents. A heritage we could easily do without. It was THEIR war, not ours.

So I say: just keep the swastica's, they have no meaning and seem totally relevant for some of the maps.

Too bad German law sees these kind of things totally different.

Monk.

As much as I appreciate the hard work being put into this mod, I do have to agree with my colleagues about some of its issues, particular that of map sizes. Omaha for example is far too large, even for a full 50 man server. It feels more like a squad of allied troops got stranded off of some random beach off the coast of Normandy then it feels like an invasion of Europe. The width of that map needs to be drastically altered. That said its refreshing for me anyway, that you guys have decided to walk down the realism path for this one but don't drink too much of the kool-aid or you may end up with a mod that is played by only a niche group of realism outfits. :p. You may want to take a cue from Foy which as far as I am concerned is currently the top map for DH.

Guys, remember to keep the critisism constructive. We all know DH needs work, let us help the dev's focus on what the community feels are the major issues first. And remember, the DH crew has requested any such feedback/bug reports be posted over in their forums so they can more easily collect them.

God mate i wouldn't go round saying things like this about WWII.

I pointed out on another forum about do we need to keep reminding the world about D Day and Pearl Harbour every year.
And how WWII has no relevance to today.
You would have thought i had murdered someone for all the vitriol i got.
I was just about labelled a Nazi for my views.

But just for the record i agree with your original point.
I think its time we all moved on.
