In just two and half weeks, Darkest Hour: Normandy 1944 has gone from a collection of images, ideas, teaser trailers, and heart throbbing anticipation to a functional multiplayer game with over 10,000 downloads and over 30 dedicated servers. World War II gamers across the world have discovered that the scenes displayed in our screenshots and trailers were not "too good to be true," as they act them out themselves.

Many of you noticed that with our initial release came a critical bug that crashed players on certain maps. After hours of trial and error, we were able to fix this bug - on 16 June, Patch 1a was released, containing not only the fix for the crash, but several visual and map bug fixes. In addition, a collection of new weapon sounds were included which sound phenomenally better .

Also released recently was the beta version of the new map, Foy, a massive infantry map giving players the chance to experience - in historical accuracy - the battle of Foy, Belgium. The long awaited Darkest Hour has provided 11 new battlefields, over 10 new vehicles, 15+ weapons, and 3 new playable nations - and we're nowhere near finished. Later this week, we will be releasing Killer9999's long-awaited Carnes Pont!

The Darkest Hour community is growing by the day with more and more new players and servers. One of the most unique qualities about this community, however, is the amount of feedback our players give us, matched by an equally willing ear for receiving feedback. The Darkest Hour team wants to continue to provide its community with the game they want and encourage you to join us in defining that at our message board, http://forums.darkesthourgame.com

If you would like to install Darkest Hour or upgrade to the latest version, head to our Downloads page.

Darkest Hour

I have had a couple of hours playing DH upto now and a VERY impressed with it.
I like the Omah beach map, amongst others, as it just feels so immersive, involved and a huge expanse.

A great job indeed has been done and I do hope everybody supports it with servers, playing it and posting on forums.
Well done and a huge thanks.

Anyone know what that means?

It might mean for the average pc owner, that they have to turn down their settings to get decent framerates compared to most RO maps (and it won't look as nice). I really like DH, but I seem to get my lowest framerates on DH maps compared to most RO, CC, or MN maps.

I don't think it was meant as a dig at the mod.

Great game! I love DH, though some of the maps need a bit of tweaking. So far my best experiences by ar have been on Foy, especially when you're an Ami desperately trying to give your bazooka man a rocket so he can blow up that blasted StuG. The Pubs are great, I've seen lots of people using VoIP and communicating and working together. :D

I'm still getting version mismatch on almost every server I try to join. And yes, I've updated to the most recent patches. Means I have yet to play a round online

Anyone know what that means?

means that even if it has the largest ammount of content specially maps, of all mods, all content overall seems to be the most unpolished of them all

I think this mod can be great, but looks more like an alpha than a beta. so IMO it was not ready for release yet, so I'll wait for a few more patches till I try it again

That shot with people behind a wall is great, it shows the kind of cooperation that seems to automatically appear on maps like Foy. People instinctively know they need to stay in cover and together with others to not get killed... makes for great teamwork!

Great mod.

In my opinion the RO community is way to picky about the quality of the RO mods. Maybe they forgot already that even RO itself started as a mod and it took a lot of patches to bring it to a polished game. It's sad that the two other mods aren't even played anymore.

I agree that the first realease was to early, because of this annoying crash bug and no decent weapon sounds. But after fixing these issues I see a great potential of DH and I already enjoy it a lot.

I've been having tremendous fun with DH. Yeah my frames are a little lower with those big beautiful maps....but that's OK.

What an awesome job! THANK YOU THANK YOU.

If you don't have it....you are really missing out.

The community is way to picky with everything, many of these guys are neever happy! Isn't necessarily a bad thing though, the crits i've seen are normally constructive, and atleast there aren't too many obsessive fan boys.

..Oh and I say again - DH IS AWESOME. :p

Absolutely nothing wrong with being picky, as long as it can be constructive.

If you gush all over something and say how wonderful it is, how will you ever know what to fix or improve? :p

Hmm...DH had potential. Unfortunately, it's performance suffers greatly. The maps are poorly conceived and apparently not tested. Some maps are still a joke like Merville Battery or Brecourt. Lack of spawn protection, buggy objectives. The maps themselves are fairly bland. I've honestly been comparing them in terms of quality to the original Day of Defeat maps. And don't get me started on the AB mutator and the stupid new MG42 sound added.

Maybe I'm harsh, or maybe the bar was raised so high by the excellent quality Carpathian Crosses displayed in all aspects of its release.

Personally I think the animations , weapon art, map art and design (save a couple that need objective/spawn tweaking) in DH are the smoothest most polished out there available ATM. We have a pretty decent sized group that agrees.

GJ DH team. Looking forward to more.:)
