I bought The Ball last fall from Steam. I played it all winter in off-line mode and it worked fine. I got stuck towards the end with a challenge I could not get through so have not played in about 2 months. Tried again yesterday and I have 2 big problems. 
1. It won't let me play in off-line mode. When I go to Steam it wants to download a game update and even though I now have high speed internet it is tell me it will take 5 hours! That can't be possible, so what gives? The original game only took a short time to download 2. If I try to play while connected to the internet the screen is so dark I can see nothing but the ball and a few faint dark images. Impossible to play and I see no way to change it.
