I thought about the Sp for a while and my idea was that instead of doing a single person 20 mission campaign surviving the onslaught of the battle they put a slight spin on it.
Every mission is a memoir or an exert from a diary or a letter of a soldier and the events that took place which are described in the writing - you obviously take his place in the firefight or the mission and as you finish it it tells you of their fate.
Throw some footage and commentary inbetween the missions.
This makes it very personal and is probably the best way to truly show the grim reality of the war.
e.g. Fritz writing in his diary about the fight for Mamaev Kurgan
or
Ivan writing a farewell letter home before theyre sent to fight for the Traktor works
