In KF1 SDK I was able to import custom textures and static meshes and save it within the map (.rom) , it is possible to do that within the kf2 sdk?

Right now I have two files, the map (.kfm) and the file containing the custom textures and static meshes I think (.upk). I'm not sure where I put the .upk file for the custom textures to show in-game

yes same process. Before you'd import them into "My level" now you just import them into your maps name. So once you start a map, save it under what ever name you decide, then in the browser look for your map. click on it and import the stuff into it and you should be good.

Also keep in mind, you'll need to make materials to apply to bsp , meshes...ect. where's old way you applied the textures.

Take a look at this, it will help you.

Still having some problems, I managed to get rid of the .upk file with your help and store the textures within the map. Everything looks fine while in the KF2 SDK but once I try to play the level in KF2 the textures just revert to default like before. I must be missing something and trying to do things easy, here are the steps that I did ;

1. Created map, KF-MarkJamesTesting.kfm and saved

2. clicked on map in content browser and imported textures, textures that I used in KF1 that are in .tga and .bmp formats (512x512 and 1024x1024)

3. created a new material, added a texture, dragged the line from the block box to diffuse, exited and saved (same way as this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKqEp1J3HUg)

4. added the material to walls, floor, ceiling, everything looks the way I want

5. added light sources, player spawns, zed spawns

6. build > build all, file > save all

The only thing I can think of that I might be doing wrong is the new material part, only adding one texture, diffuse, compared to other some other tutorials where they have 2 or more textures with multiple lines going everywhere.

I've managed to import the textures into the map thanks to your help but the custom textures still revert to default when I try to play the map in KF2, here are the steps that I did;

1. created map, KF-MarkJamesTesting.kfm and saved

2. opened the content browser and imported textures into map, images that I used in KF1, .tga and .bmp formats (256x256, 512x512, 1024x1024)

3. created a new material, added a texture, dragged the line from the black box to diffuse (same way as this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKqEp1J3HUg)

4. applied the material to walls, ceiling, and floor, everything looks perfect within the sdk

5. added a light source, player spawn, build > build all , file > save all

the only thing that I can think of that I might be doing wrong is the new material part, and only adding 1 texture when some other tutorials have 2 or more textures with lines going everywhere.

The only way it would revert back to default material is by saving in other package. The engine will use default texture if it can't find the assigned material/texture. Now you said you imported the textures fine and made material for it. where did you save the materials? in KF-MarkJamesTesting? pr in packages folder name?

I saved the material in the KF-MarkJamesTesting, I'll try again in-case I saved the material in a wrong package

here's a picture of how it looks in the content browser, I have the textures and materials saved within the map if I'm understanding this correctly.

I don't know if this means anything but when I hover over my textures and materials in the content browser it says - Status: Loaded (Package not saved) even though I clicked save all.
Edit: probably doesn't mean anything, when i click on another package then click black it's normal

I don't think that's your map file. You should see lots of over files in your map file. all the baked shadows..etc.

I still think you're saving to upk file.

Unless TWI has changed their path, your map(s) should be saved in your My game/ kf2/ unpublished folder.

I'll have to test and see if it's still the case.

It doesn't give me an option to save a .upk file when I changed the save location to the map name, I can see the size of the map (.kfm) increasing whenever I add a a custom texture and save.

I seem to get different results depending on where I load the map from in the sdk, the my documents folder and the kf2 map folder, I'm probably creating more problems by loading the map from a different location. My old map didn't have a normal light so that's probably why shadowmaptextures didn't show up.

I created a new map, so some things look different, this is how the left side looks when I load the default location, and I seem to get more errors

If I load the map from the default location KF2 SDK shows my map as a external location (maybe that's normal?) and gives me errors about the package even though the package is the map

I'll trying creating a new map in the default location and see if I still get errors about the package.

I get the same errors with a fresh map in the default location, maybe any of this info will help

Map Location C:\Users\Mark\Documents\My Games\KillingFloor2\KFGame\Unpublished\BrewedPC\ Maps

Map Name : KF-Untitled.kfm

How it looks when I imported the texture, is the package name correct with the map name? This must be the part I'm screwing up.

When I save I get this, even though there shouldn't be an external package, the texture/material is saved within the map, there's no .upk file, and the size of the map increases with each texture/material/static mesh I import/create

I've been having the exact same issue with materials not showing up in-game, i'll be keeping an eye on this thread. Will post if I find out what's going on with this.

It's a bug. it need to be fixed. file extension has to be fixed. Just work from that directory and ignore the message for now, I'm sure TWI will fix it.

Edit: This should be the location. Documents\My Games\KillingFloor2\KFGame\Unpublished\BrewedPC\Maps
