Actually i would love to create a map, but first I have to gettin into UDK again and also get into using blender since I never learned modelling (or at least uv-wrapping and texturing meshes).

I do not have some ideas for a cemetery, but I got an awesome reference for something like an abadoned asylum or similar. Probably it could help on a cemetery too. (there is a load of good stuff at totorotimes) http://www.totorotimes.com/japan/negishi-grandstand-racecourse-yokohama/

i've decided i'm going to get back into modelling after a few years hiatus

i'm concerned what kind of construction kf2 uses for it's maps, ue3 allows you to make maps entirely using 3d models. i believe the blood system uses vertex colouring to add the blood textures to the world and if thats so i doubt the maps are built using CSG.

perhaps they're using a pixel based mask on a secondary UV like a lightmap uses. i think this is a question that needs answering though because remaking assets for the blood system after the fact would be a pain.

for the time being i'm learning my way around maya, it's not even remotely similar to softimage7

Yes. I've begun modeling a ton of props that i will need to make a tropical island map. The map is designed on paper with an airport next to a pier. The pier will be damaged by a Horzine cargo ship that crashed into it spilling shipping containers everywhere. I shall call it...Zed Island.

I have sketched out and designed the maps. Waiting on the specs for measurements and the SDK/UDK package before I start creating it.

Need to work with Blender before I can get down and dirty with detailing. Still a newby at 3d modeling with it.

Ahaha, I like the name!

I've been thinking of taking a jab at mapping. All the custom textures and models seem like a pain though. I've got some experience with 3d modelling, texturing not so much.

Isn't it possible to use the pre-existing assets anyway?

Yeah, but it's half assing it...best to use your own if you can make em.

I guess with things like blender and gimp it's just a matter of investing some time into learning, and well, puting that time to effective use.

I know nothing of making maps, but I feel like creating this place is obligatory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsqCXXyzlUM

Uhh.. did you get that from one of my earlier posts in a different thread? I have already "let the cat out of the bag" to another forum member that the Paris catacombs is a map currently in production as I type, at this very moment. I even included photos that are being used as source material for the map geometry.

Here is that link to the thread where I posted that info :
