Everytime I boot up a new session of RO2 I have to reload the custom maps, some of which take a bit. I do recall in RO1 that you could load them in a certain directory and that also once it was loaded that version was good to go. Any help on this?

Do you mean files downloaded with the steam workshop? If yes, those files are NOT stored in the game cache, but in:
<My Documents>\My Games\RedOrchestra2\ROGame\Published\CookedPC
They should stay there until you manually delete them. Please start RO2. Let it download the maps and close RO2. Now check if the map files can be found at that location (they will probably be in the Maps sub folder).

Steam workshop freezes my PC and I have a fairly new PC. Curious why it the custom maps just cant load like the stock maps.
