The worst part not being able to play multiplayer w/o running the risk of putting a few holes in some unfortunate nearby inanimate object.

My game keeps freezing no matter what I do. It freezes in the menus, in game when I switch to a different weapon, when a specimen shows up for the first time.....

Everytime I am forced to reboot my PC as I can't return to desktop at all. This is getting ridiculous.

Windows Vista 64 bit
Core i7 2.66 GHz
Geforce GTX 275

Killing Floor was running perfectly and smoothly before the update.

Like many of you upon downloading the update my load times went from 15 seconds to 2+ minutes. I was very upset at first thinking TWI ruined KF for my rig, but then i remembered i have gone through this before. After following this guide, my load times went from 2+ mins back down to 15-30 seconds.

1) Find your killingfloor.ini file located in the steam/steamapps/common/KF/system folder (hint it looks like a notepad icon with a cog)
2) Change the cache size to better match your ram size
Listed under [Engine.GameEngine].

256 Megabytes of RAM or less
CacheSizeMegs=32

512 Megabytes of RAM
CacheSizeMegs=64

768 Megabytes of RAM
CacheSizeMegs=128

1 Gigabyte of RAM or more
CacheSizeMegs=256

EDIT BY Zetsumei: NEVER make CacheSizeMegs bigger than 256mb unless you like crashes!

Fix2: Turn of PreCaching
Also in your redorchestra.ini under [ALAudio.ALAudioSubsystem]
Change UsePrecache=True to UsePrecache=False
and under [Engine.LevelInfo]
Change bNeverPrecache=false to bNeverPrecache=true
and under [Engine.NullRenderDevice]
Change UsePrecaching=True to UsePrecaching=False
and under [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]
Change UsePrecaching=True to UsePrecaching=False
and under [D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice]
Change UsePrecaching=True to UsePrecaching=False
and under [OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice]
Change UsePrecaching=True to UsePrecaching=False
and under [PixoDrv.PixoRenderDevice]
Change UsePrecaching=True to UsePrecaching=False

good luck, i didnt make this guide, im just a messenger...the following info was taking from the RO forums, i take no credit for it.

OK, I did this and it worked for me (Thank you very much!). So if you are having problems try this out.

Same exact situations for me...constant spike throughout the whole game process!:(:(

Exact same problem. Played the game since release, but after the latest patch the game won't respond to anything as soon the next map starts to loading. :(

I've played the game since release on THIS system:
4 GHz. E8600 C2D, 8 GB. Corsair mem., OCZ Vertex, ATI 4870 and Vista Ultimate 64.

BUT

Funny thing is: It's a Vista - or 64 bit problem only

CUZ

I've a XP Professional (32-bit) installed on the EXACT same system - using dual boot option and running on a sl0wm0 WD Velociraptor.

I'm an educated IT technician and don't even get me started on the usual game integrity cache - already been there.

By the way... adressing all the st**** n00b advices in this forum regarding "system defrag", decreasing OC (CPU/GPU) etc. - don't support ppl if you know **** about IT, plz. ;o)

If ppl can overclock - or write on this forum. Then they probably know all about the useless (especially on my Vertex and/or regarding game related stability problems) system defrag and OC related problems.

Only thing I could come up with testing was enabling my page file in Vista 64-bit for testing this specific error (an 8 GB. gaming - used for gaming only - will NEVER run out of mem. with this amount of memory).
And of course; disabling OC (though 117% :D stable as it takes 4,5 GHz. easily with watercooling) and trying enabling DEP for this game.

In short: Never a prob until latest patch - using the same system in Vista 64-bit and XP Pro. 32-bit. After patch; still runs flawlessly in XP, but on the exact same system (exept from the hard drives of cuz) it locks up in Vista 64-bit.

Get on with it guys - and thx for Ur excellent support @ Tripwire.

PS I'll wait buying the latest DLC (and my second DLC :cool:) until I can play the game on Vista again. :p
