This game type is so awesome. It is by far the most tactical and slower paced game because your life actually matters. I am hopeful that over time, this game type gains an even stronger following. It is sweet...

Changed our servers round to promote Countdown more

PARA] Realism#1 UK (TE) = 213.171.220.130:7777 Territory Maps 24/7
[PARA] Realism#2 UK (CD) = 213.171.220.156:7777 Countdown Maps 24/7
[PARA] Realism#3 UK (TE) = 213.171.220.66:7777 Territory Maps 24/7

Had 20+ on last night and had a ball, much more tactical, we will be populating and pushing this gametype from now on

For tactical practices and trainings we (101.J) have been using CD much in part to the 1 life to live. With our size the matches and rounds are very invovling (averaging about 30 members playing), just as well we remove the time limit. However the con is this gametype is not concept, but rather the maps themselves. Attacker spawning too close to the defenders being a main fault I've seen on more then a couple maps. The maps objectives were made with the 3:30 timeframe in mind, but frankly to get the tactical gameplay you need to remove the timer, because as we have seen it, it becomes run to cap, and ignore the fire, that plain isn't tactical.

Going onward we have to drop it as a gamemode for us due to the maps. Looking at TE with limited tickets at this point, it unfortunately was what most of the maps has been designed for.

I'm on the fence about it. I love territory, but wish there was more teamwork. The few times i've played countdown I spawn only to die 5 seconds later to an unseen sniper or FF, to watch 5 minutes of hiding and camping until the lockdown timer sets off. That's the most awful thing I've ever seen in this game (barring firefight of course). Now, I can imagine that having an actual pre-made team would make it a blast to play, but without one? bah.

I already played CS.

Yet you havn't played Global operations by the sound of it. Which is a much better counter strike that just got forgotten. The best thing about Global Operations was when you went to disarm the bomb, you had to manually disarm the bomb. Picking the wrong wire meant it exploded.

And you havn't played Battlefield's Rush mode either by the sound of it. Where you have to take out multiple objectives and the game progresses onwards to the next area of the map. Another feature over counter strike.

If you want to draw such rough comparisons then please refrain from using words and just do caveman grunts.

The idea of CD is awesome, but the practice not so much. It's a little bit frustrating if any small inattention leads to a 2 min respawn time. I think that's why territory is more popular.

Countdown FTW

Our 26 slot Countdown server was full all day Sunday (thanks to everyone) and was full from 1pm Monday afternoon.

Usually we play around 10-12 a side, an excellent number for this gametype.

If you are a countdown freak/lover/newbie get yourself over and check us out

Thanks

Chris, your server is the one that got me started on CD it is great. A few sound errors and ctd, but I assume thats due to the game. Ive noticed a few more CD servers popping up too, the gamemode is growing in popularity.

The worst part of it for me is the constant starting and stopping with each objective that falls. I wish it progressed seamlessly because the short pause in between each objective is a MASSIVE immersion breaker for me.
^ this. It gets annoying and confusing. If the mode were more seamless and easier to understand what was going on, I would play it a lot more. As with many things, it seems we have to depend on the modders....

Find it hard

Find it hard

to find servers too. Also, its hard to find good teamwork servers here in US.. Does anyone have a suggestion here in the northeast? I get a lot of good european servers with pings in the two hundreds...

I only want to play 64 player countdown. With less numbers its more boring. I want to feel like I'm in a battle. Not like I'm in some organized matchup where The russian squad leader said "Lets have a balanced fight here" and the german squad leader agreed.

I want bullets flying across the cover I'm on as I scream out to someone on my team to snipe that MG I'm pinned. Not to be looking around the building for a needle in a haystack.

Ours is in Chicago and we usually try to get it rolling somewhere shortly after 9 PM EST. We typically get a few good hours in each night. A couple folks in this thread are semi-regular on our server. We usually get it started with just 4-6 of us and once we get to about 8 folks, it picks up pretty quickly. It is a 32-slot server. We don't want it any bigger as play deteriorates in our opinion.

Feel free to join us.
