This is going back a long time but there used to be a game called Zombies ate my neighbors. Cooperative play where you and a friend took on hordes of the living dead (and giant babies)...haha. IMHO, cooperative play with friends, is the most fun. Player vs. player is cool too but there is always someone who just dominates out of your group of friends and after a while every one gets bored b/c they know that "Bob" or "Frank" is the best, they can't beat them and there is no point in playing if your just going to loose. No one likes to loose.

Cooperative play on the other hand does not suffer from the aforementioned draw back. Everyone, regardless of skill in your friend group is working together, instead of against each other. This results in more laughs and longer replay values as no one is getting POed at each other and quitting.

So my question is: Where are these types of cooperative style games for the pc? Off the top of my head I can think of L4D and KF. And if I was being specific, since KF doesn't have a cooperative story mode I guess I'm just down to L4D. Any games I'm missing...that have cooperative story modes that are really fun...let me know.

Relatedly I saw that Sega is doing another Aliens vs. Predator game. Personally I think that would be a really good concept for cooperative multiplayer story mode. I can see my buddies and I as 4 or 5 lone colonial marines (with team speak built in of course) taking down the alien colony or as a group of blood thirty aliens running down some ventilation shafts in search of our prey. Does anyone know if this game has cooperative story mode??

My question is this..

Why aren't people more cooperative in THIS game? Someone asks for money after late joining at like wave 7, and by that point we've all got money, but some people refuse to give, and simply ignore any please for help. Then those people get owned. That's why I carry an extra gun as a medic until everyone's got what they need and I've got extra cash to give to late joiners. It's just unbelievable. Go play solo if you wanna level your sharpshooter, people.

there is a story mode, its map dependent.
the hive and raccoon airport are story mode maps.
it just takes a really long time to do the story mode maps.

Not just as a friendly fire fan, I think you'll find better cooperative, more tactical play in KF in settings with substantial friendly fire, truly truly.

You can find good cooperative story mode in
- Rainbow6 Vegas 2 (story mode for 2 player, against Bots for 4 players)
- Boderlands (4 players)
- CoD: WaW (4 players)
- Ghost Recon & Advanced Warfighter 1+2
- Conflict: Denied Ops (2 players)

There are although mods that enable coop for SP content for some FPS, for example:
- Avp 1 & 2
- F.E.A.R.
- FarCry
- Doom 3 + Addon
- Quake 4

Soldiers : Heroes of WWII allows coop through the entire game more or less, Faces of War aswell, and as Blacklabel said also Men of War.

IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 does have coop capability to play even entire campaigns and careers, but it might take certain kind of persons to enjoy that sort of game cooperatively as it can be rather slow paced to the point you want to grab a beer, cognac or something in the meantime.

Medal of Honor : Allied Assault (and Spearhead) also have decent coop mod, albeit some of the maps can be slightly buggy and not every map is actually supported.

Hearts of Irons can be played also cooperatively even by the same nation but that might be rather dry to play :D

I can't recall any other games other than those which are already mentioned in this thread.

Most fun I've had on coop that was actually based around a good story/plot was on System shock 2 (using a mod), I'm enjoying working through ArmAII in coop currently and most fun I've had in coop, L4D aside (I'm kind of not counting L4D because it was designed as coop MP)...strangely...Rune.
