It's definately worth picking up. Be warned, though. It's not just DoW in WWII clothes. It's faster and requires more attention. It demands that you pay attention to where your units are, what they're doing, who's shooting who, and how much of a chance they have. It's fairly 'micro-intensive', but not in the traditional base building 'zomg where are my peons i need a turret here and two more on gold' sense. You'll hardly spend any time in your base. Most of the action comes from forward barracks (a beautiful thing).

You'd think it would get old with just two teams (axis and allies) but it is incredibly diverse.

Damn, the campaign sure is intensive. And the AT guns are deadlier than ever! Bye bye axis panzers.

One thing that i dont like is that every enemy squad carries a panzerchreck. :mad:
Good game, as far as i can see.

But to the victor goes the spoils of war :) Kill the squad, you gain a P-Shrek! Woot!

And you're right the AT's got upgraded, but they really needed it. In the beta their 'cone of fire' was way too small. The Allies had **** for AT capabilities and not enough strength in other areas to make up for it. All that increasing their cone did was make it so they're not quite so easy to dance around, and Axis players have to use their armor with as much care as Allies do (for ultimately better results from it, given that Axis armor is much better than Shermans and M10s)

An upgraded Sherman can go toe-to-toe with a Panzer IV and probably win. Against a Panther or a Tiger it takes two.

Stugs are also immensely useless because you can literally run rings around them.

I love the sheer enormity of the missions and how it is presented. You're given a smaller task and are lead into larger and larger tasks, but never does it become overwhelming. On the timed Carentan mission, I found it easier to turtle around the church and have a couple of para squads, long range shots from AT guns, and mortar barrages to clean up the town square. In the end they took the town hall, but I held out in the church, they never broke through, and the tanks arrived in time to kick a fair deal of ass.

Hey guys I recommend that speed change script I posted above!
Tapping the z key several times to bring the speed from 8 down to 6/5 makes the game much more cerebral and you can enjoy the FX and firefights better
More time to think, and especially combined with my more ZOOm out mod. Clack the mouse wheel 3 times so it's just under max zoom, hold the ALT key and swivel the camera angle down a notch and with the speed slowed down a touch the game really opens up!

Your situational awareness goes up several notches and you can see the firing angles and unit positional relationships better etc, especially when sitting up an AT gun's facing
Plus queuing up long lines off tank traps/barbed wire is easier without having to scroll the screen around.

I wish the M10 was canned for a M36 Jackson with it's 90mm gun which can kill Tigers and Panthers easy in real life. Then the Sherman should be more like the current M10....
The Stug should be much slower in rotation too...

Explain how to do it

I thought I already gave full detailed instructions on how to do it :rolleyes:

once again -

http://www.members.optushome.com.au/blitzforce/Temp/camera.lua
save this file into your COH/WW2/Data folder

it's an empty directory, so if you don't like it just delete the file
then you have to add "-dev" to the command line of the CoH shortcut to make it work

so right click your COH shortcut icon and click on PROPERTIES. In the TARGET line add a space and then this to it: -dev
It should look something like this:
"C:\Company of Heroes folder\RelicCOH.exe" -dev

Mouse wheel adjusts the zoom, and Alt+Mouse movement changed the camera angle as per usual
Then the Model detail setting in the options determines how much detail you see as you zoom out and thus framerate etc

Gets a little foggy at the extreme range of the zoom, but it's better to have the range than not, so I left it this high. I don't usually zoom all the way out, but the flexibility is there. If you want to reduce ther ange then edit it with notepad and change distmax=60 to 55 or something. The original was 40.

changing DistRateWheelZoomOut=1.2
to a smaller value like 1.1 will improve fine control of the zoom out, since we have a bigger range now. A value of one will disable the zoom out, and a bigger value will increase the speed of zoom out

It's not just good, it's teh pwnz.

I think the demo was a bit easier than the retail, though (which is pretty standard, as far as I can tell) so if you do plan on buying it don't be suprised. Just a fair warning. It caught me off guard but I'm still enjoying it :)

teaser put up by the guy who's coding that community mod tool - he added 2 men to the allied engie squad

good times, soon we will be able to change and hack the game as we see fit!
I'm gonna double the ranges of the tanks and infantry, and coupled with the zoom out mod should make for some better firefights
Double the damage of all weapons etc

I really enjoyed the demo. I would buy this game, but I'm going to wait until I upgrade my computer. If the game was amazing, on a middle to low end computer, I can't even imagine how high is :eek:

Someone made a mod tool for COH, and you can change everything and I mean eveyrthing with it!
Want more units per squad you can do it, weapon values etc

[This post is very quick documentation as I dont have time to write full and nice docs tonight]
Download link: http://www.corsix.org/misc/Beta_041b.zip <Changed to hotfixed version>

I recommend (eg. do it or I kill you) deleting the contents of your "Company of Heroes\WW2\Data" folder (do not back up or copy the contents either - things have changed too much).

So, first thing first, when you launch the app, you want to click the "New Mod" button. Pick "Company of Heroes" from the games list, enter a name like "Corsix's Mod" (replace my name with yours or you die) and press Create. From now on, when you launch the application, load this mod.

You will notice on the files list a change; there are three things with a hard-disk icon called "attrib", "data" and "movies". This reflects how CoH actually stores the files, rather than the very messy plonking it all together that 0.4.0 did. The data folder, when extracted or saved will go to "Company of Heroes\(your mod name)\Data", attrib will go to "Company of Heroes\(your mod name)\DataAttrib" and movies will go to"Company of Heroes\(your mod name)\Movies".

RGD editing can either be done by:
- Loading the RGD up, changing stuff and hitting Save, or..
- Dumping all RGDs to LUA (right click on the attrib folder to do this), editing the luas in notepad or something and then converting back to RGD the changed luas.
To make CoH load your changed files: make sure you have your mod loaded, go to the "Play" menu at the top, tick dev mode, then choose "Play in CoH"

PS. There is a donate button when you start up the program

also note

RGDs can be edited inside my program. LUAs cannot - open them with notepad.

Last night i built 25 howitzers against AI, nice little hole when they shot at one place :p

with the trainer? :)

I already made an extensive mod

half hitpoints for all unit, doubled infantry squads number, tweaked Skirmish AI,
made AI used fog of war etc

gave tanks a minimum range so the tanks gun/MGs can't shoot where they can't tilt down too! So infantry can get close and make em squirm. Also reduced Stug rotating speed...I think I'll reduce all tank rotating speeds
Tiger turret speeds need top come right down...

debating on wether I should even up AT and tank gun ranges, but make AT guns harder to hit from distance as they should be. Stug's lower profile should be harder to hit as well, which will make more sense when I up the gun ranges

There is a penertation/deflection system there which you can overhaul it close to RO's system :)
Will need to revamp ranges and values across the board though

another variant of that gamespeed scprit which also works on replays

The following script adds some useful features in replays.

F7 = Toggle Interface
F8 = Toggle FPS monitor
CTRL-B = Toggle Bighead Mode
CTRL-W = Toggle Wireframe
Ctrl- Left Arrow = Gamespeed slower
CTRL-Right Arrow = Gamespeed Faster
CTRL- UP Arrow = Max Speed

CTRL - Down Arrow = Slowest speed

To enable, First edit your COH shortcut:
Rightclick/Properties

Put -dev at the end of your COH commandline. I made a separate shortcut with this option. Note that you CANNOT play multiplayer with the -dev option enabled. Youll have to relaunch after you're done playnig with your replays.

Go into your /program files/THQ/COH directory
Create a new text document and name it 'autoexec.lua'

Copy and paste the following script into this file and save it:

g_nShowTaskbar = 1
function ToggleShowTaskbar()
if (g_nShowTaskbar == 1) then
g_nShowTaskbar = 0
taskbar_hide ()
message_hide ()
else
g_nShowTaskbar = 1
taskbar_show ()
message_show ()
end
end
g_nShowFPS = 0
function ToggleShowFPS()
if (g_nShowFPS == 0) then
g_nShowFPS = 1
statgraph_set_visible(1)
statgraph_channel_set_enabled("fps",1)
else
g_nShowFPS = 0
statgraph_channel_set_enabled("fps",0)
statgraph_set_visible(0)
end
end
function GameSpeed_Slower()
if (getsimrate() > 2) then
setsimrate(getsimrate() - 1)
end
end
function GameSpeed_Faster()
if (getsimrate() < 20) then
setsimrate(getsimrate() + 1)
end
end
bind("F7", "ToggleShowTaskbar()")
bind("F8", "ToggleShowFPS()")
bind("CONTROL+B", "ee_bigheadmode()")
bind("CONTROL+W", "VIS_Wireframe()")
bind("CONTROL+Left", "GameSpeed_Slower()")
bind("CONTROL+Right", "GameSpeed_Faster()")
bind("CONTROL+Up", "setsimrate(10)")
bind("CONTROL+Down", "setsimrate(2)")
