Really hope they don't screw this one up. CoH is one of my all time favourites... Maybe I'll fire it up again some time ;(

As much as I respect their will to try something new with DoW II instead of just adding a few bits on DoW I, I didn't like the end result. Never found the appetite to delve into multiplayer and watch endless replays of pro's like I did with CoH. So hopefully they can deliver us another fantastic RTS.

I think they also know that Relic is not doing very well as of lately, so they should really get their **** together and give us a product worthy of CoH! And save their asses as well. I just can't shake off the fear that they will only try to get as many sales as possible based on the trademark as a final effort to milk Relic before they close it down or something (see the failure of CoH Online and the last CoH expansion).

So... fingers crossed on this one. I don't mind how much cheese they squeeze into the campaign (which seems a lot from the preview), as long as they deliver a solid multiplayer.

I just hope they don't hire the old narrator who, as it turns out, is the same guy that EFFED up the narration in RO:HoS. Horrible, horrible stuff.

"I must rread everry half-sentence as if I'm making a tough statement! And I'm shouting but not rreally because I'm only rreading zis!"
If I walk into a coffee shop one day and I hear that guy say "souldjer" two tables down I'm going to calmly get up, walk over to him, introduce myself to his date and then strangle him. Not angrily. It just needs to be done.
I seriously hope he's Alan or Ramm's cousin, who incessantly bugged them to get into the game and they didn't go out looking for someone like this, checked out his resume and thought "this is the guy we need to bring RO:HoS to life!"

But if they're already speculating how they're going to incorporate Order 227 into the gameplay as opposed to just misrepresenting it in cutscenes, they might as well go ahead and hire that goofball.

I'm looking forward to this. I didn't read any of scans from the article; are they doing any updates to the engine or is it just an expansion with more doctrines, campaigns, and units?

It will use a new engine
The game runs on the Essence 3 engine, the latest version of the graphics engine Relic have been updating and expanding upon for years.

Going to be a great game. They only need make that Dow2's matchmaking system. No more rank whoring and smurfing, "I'm not going to play on this team because your w/l ratio is ony 2:1". Just playing the game and less whining.

I hope they fix all the hacking and DC issues CoH had too. Just played some quickmatches a while ago and both games that I won ended with the other guy trying to lag out and give me the loss :/.

Snow plays a major part on the battlefield, falling and melting dynamically, and slowing your soldiers and tanks based on its depth.

The cover system has been revamped, to function more realistically and allow soldiers to vault over obstacles.
Line of sight plays a large tactical role, with the game's fog of war based on what your soldier's can actually see. Relic call this system "True Sight", and it causes areas of the map to be grayed out and enemies within turned invisible by buildings, items of cover, or dropped smoke grenades.

Would be cool if they included 2 campaigns instead of just the Red Army one. I'm sure the same time period seen from the Wehrmacht perspective would be just as interesting.

Ohmygod, they reused the French outhouse map prop, so unfitting for the Ostfront! (lower left)

Why, that must be it! What, with their abundance of historical research pertaining to Order 227 and soldiers with bayonets behind their backs. I mean, what else could be the reasoning behind something that would otherwise be a blatant oversight!

Something along the lines of: We made an assload of content for CoH that will probably hold up fairly well even in the sequel.

Because personally, I've spent over 200 hours making CoH maps and still haven't used every set piece. If they're reusing models from CoH, I figure that's better than not using models and having less stuff.

soldiers with bayonets behind their backs.

Holy cow! You're right. I'm going over on the CoH2 forums to raise hell about this! I already have when people were suggesting that the Russian army be 50/50 men/women and also that they'd do the whole Enemy at the Gates scene.
