Ofcourse everythings a bit exaggerated because its a game, why do people take these things so seriously? Like the guy in that vid accuses Relic of attacking his freedom of speech and whatnot?

Video games are serious business. The RO2 forums are a living example of that.

So what do the guys on here that have the game have to say about COH 2 now? Is it a good game or not?
Looking at my steam friendslist, there seems to be no one playing it and nobody has invested more than 10 hours into the game. Failure?

As silly as it sounds on paper, Relic (at least) used to close and delete any topic containing any kind of negativity, valid complaints, or criticism etc of CoH2 around release with such zealous fervour it was kind of hard to believe unless you were seeing it yourself. No idea if it's got any better recently, so pretty much just precautious disclaimer inb4 DMCA abuse.
I don't played it but it looks like CoH 1 with the eastern front mod, a new interface and a few shiny features.. nothing major.. I'm alot more interested in MoW:AS2.. maybe they can do something new instead of recycling the **** they already have.
I just started playing Men of war Assault Squad after purchasing it during the Steam summer sale. And what a game it is! I totally fell in love with it and it makes everything that CoH1 did wrong, right!
I am actually thinking of my next strategies now so that when back home, I can load and play online immediately. haha

ah sense FINALY ! its really a great game with alot of depth ( down to the pockets of individual soliders ) LOVED the game.

Wow. I am utterly speechless, and so glad I did not drop money on this.
Although, props to this guy for making it all the way through the game, I would have had an aneurysm halfway through mission 2.
Yeah, "Bad Comedian" does come off as kind of overly defensive about the portrayal of Soviets in the game, especially for essentially calling Relic Nazi-sympathizers, but he does make some good points throughout the video. I mean, come on, they couldn't nuance the Russians just a little bit? At least show one or two men who are fighting because they want to and not because they'll be shot in the back.

Only real difference is I doubt anyone would make very thinly veiled self-reinforcing and walking stereotype out of old propaganda film and would be more appropriate in some Saturday Morning Cartoon Villain's jumping the shark moment of the Germans with Hitler eating babies and ****s aryan fuel for his tank after breakfast before doing his mecha workout, hails his own statue and [insert something you might see in Wolfenstein game]. At least not with when it's claimed to be
My view on this is that under no circumstances should it be banned in Russia (just lol). Gaming has evolved into a new form of art after all. Just like cinema, we get awesome games and then we get crappy cliche holywood-type games, just like CoH2. There is nowhere a rule that because you actually control the "people" fighting there should be a restriction to what you can do/forced to do in the campaign. I definitely didnt enjoy the crappy story either, but I just got through it as if I watched a relaxed cheesy action flick before going to bed. I love me some tarkovsky, but from time to time I like to order pizzas with friends and laugh our asses off with rambo/die hard/whatever. Just as I like RO but from time to time I will play equally fun games like CoH despite their flaws.

Funny story, nowhere in that article does it say that the Russian government stepped in and said "This game is banned". The distributor just stopped carrying it because they got enough complaints about it from their customers. If I was a retail store, and was told by several thousand people that the rotting bananas I was selling were making me look bad, I'd stop selling them too, you know?

The game was pulled because enough Russians (and probably others too, considering the game was pulled in CIS, not Russia specifically), decided that it was unacceptable. That it was an ignorant, political, crass, and offensive attempt to cater to the West's audience without asking questions at best, and a russophobic, Cold War style, propaganda driven attempt to re-write their own history at worst.
I entirely sympathize with them, the line has to be drawn somewhere. And evidently they have decided that enough is enough, good for them.
