Is it just me or does it seem like a large portion the community is always hating on the "Ro veterans"? Ive been hear for a long time and its annoying to hear people who are new to the community hate on us just for stating a opinion. I like the game no doubt about it but im not gonna be a mindless fanboy either, especially if I just recently learned about RO. The hate toward the realism nuts is also dumb, if it wasnt for the "realism nuts" ro would of never got as popular as it did. just a rant

I think there is plenty of it going both ways. Some justified, some not. Meh. I think things will settle down eventually.

Both sides think they know what realism is. Unfortunately, most actually don't including myself. New players look at it from a perspective based on other games such as Battlefield, ARMA and CoD. RO Veterans look at RO1 to how the game should look like.

But the fact is, Red Orchestra 2 is not like all of those games, it actually strives to be more realistic, but some people are simply baffled at how some things became much easier while others became much harder.

People don't quite seem to grasp the potential of the game just yet, because everyone is still running around in an uncoordinated mess. Just give it some time, and people will eventually find agreement.

I guess a lot of us from ro1 expected a realism mode which was more like RO1 ppsh drum, more class limits, no radar/hud, etc. The realism mode did not turn out like many of us had hopped though. You are right in that many of the changes are for the better like less smg recoil, graphics, animations, and tanks but not all. The game is still very fun though even though I do have complaints and the potential is there for a even better game that can appeal to more.

Give it time..over the years RO1 has had more of a cult following and was not always patient with the noobs ruining their game. The roles will be reversed one day.

But I was always as gentle as possible ;)

As a noob I've been on one or two servers where experienced players are spending more time in chat b_i_t_c_hing about us noobs and what they do or don't like about the game than they actually are playing.

I'm loving the game even with all it's problems at the moment. Having been a flight sim buff for years, being thrown in at the deep end (ie online only) with RO2 is a bit of a shock to me personally. My biggest problem though is finding some decent servers where there isn't an 'Elitist' and unfriendly attitude.

The other day I witnessed two idiots duking it out in chat. They came across as a couple of spoilt 12 year old Justin Bieber fans bigging it up behind their keyboards and hurling insults at each other oblivious to everything else around them. I mean these two guys were foaming at the mouth! They did seem to be experienced players and I remember why for many years I've stuck to single player games.

This sort of stuff needs to be nipped in the bud. It's the only bad thing I have to say about RO2 and it is probably beyond TW to do anything about it. If possible server admin need to come down hard on these people. :(

I don't think so. Before the beta was released, it seemed like the "ro1 veterans" were openly hostile toward the new crowd, the "entitled gamers," and the "beta moaners." Now the "beta moaning" has been replaced with realism moaning and original RO entitlement. lol

I like to think of the "veterans" as being hipsters. "I liked RO when it was just a mod." "I played RO1 when it was first released," etc. I played RO1, too.

I'd say RO1 veterans are in the majority. The vocal minority will learn to adapt or leave once MW3 comes out. Then we'll have RO2 all to ourselves. :)

Exactly. That's how it was before and how it will be again.

HOWEVER, on a good note, this whole influx of new people that aren't complainers, that are actually enjoying the game, shows us just how tired of the "same-ole other style" of gameplay people are are becoming. I think many players really want something more in-depth like RO2. It's just hard to break 10 years of running and gunning habits and can be super frustrating when you can't throw a nade across the map into the opposing spawn. People just need to be patient.

But every game will have it's bell curve from launch.

Well the term RO1 Veteran is a bit unclear anyway and how do you notice on the server that the person is actually a "veteran" and not just claiming to be one? Of course there are some clans and units that I would consider being veterans but that may not apply to all the members.

Not going to play psychiatrist here but I also dont really see why Veterans should automatically be more social as other players. I think it has actually more to do with the persons playing the game and not that much about how long they played a certain game. But I guess the combination of people who are not very social ingame and when they consider being a veteran it puts them into a position where they might feel being better, smarter etc as new players.

I would consider myself as being a RO veteran and I can also say that im also not very happry about some of the gameplay elements and decision (in relaxed and full realism) because I also expected probably something differant as people who never played RO before.

I played RO1 for ages, and consider RO2 to be a major improvement for the most part.

I like that I can actually Run in this game rather than being a 300lb out of shape guy with bad knees, and I like that I can see clearly for more than 20 feet in front of me. There are issues with things like the suppression mechanics, and aiming right after sprinting, etc, that need a little work, but in general things are good and I'm looking forward to community made maps to improve on a decent foundation.

For people who want RO2 to be just like RO1 with better graphics, go update the graphics of RO1 and keep playing it. RO2 is NOT RO1.

I dont feel the forums hostile towards ro1 players just to people opening the 30th thread about how there should be more sway with an argument for realism when we know sway isnt exactly realistic Im sure everyone knoes about it by now and while there are arguments for both it seems like there are at least 1-2 new threads about it every day. So that might piss some poeple off

I don't think it's all about realism at all.

I just would have wanted it to be more like the original RO was, as opposed to this shift on the the direction of most shooters.

This is because I loved RO because it was different, from shooters like Battlefield and Modern Warfare, which's flow I didn't like as much.

I think it's more down to the personality of the player than between "RO vets" and "new players." Each week in our clan meeting, we are all reminded to encourage and help newer player and to turn the other cheek. Some of us get more frustrated than others, we try to keep our players in check.

As we are reminded... "Today's new player could very well be tomorrow's clan mates."

i agree with everything you just said.

also, id like to add that the devs were supposedly realism nuts themselves, but seem to have "softened" after years of whining by new RO players about how hard everything is so they dumbed down the game.

not enough to make it a game that will appeal to the masses, but just enough to make most of the old guard annoyed...

with a game like this you need to look after your fanbase, or remake the game drastically so that the mainstream crowd falls in love...
this halfway stuff just isnt good for anyone.

I'd like to think the ones who type like two year olds and always finishing arguments with "n look guys i was here since 2007 ur opiunino don' mean anythin!" don't represent the overall RO community, just a few vocal arsewhipes on the forums.

I actually realized the same thing when I said, "I played RO before it was popular," the other day on a server.

This.

For many of us veterans, realism has nothing to do with it.

The RO veterans are hating on everyone whos new to the game.
They are also hating on RO2 because it isnt exactly what RO was.

They whine about everything so far "oh no, you can run 100 meters, in reality you can only run 10 meters, and when you do, you cannot shoot anyone because you are fatigued and cannot aim, because of all the sway"
