Companies aim to get the most sales with their games, so they're tailored to be simple

Who's heard of Call of Duty? Everyone

Who's heard of RO? Realism fans, internet + game savvy people, the odd person who's seen it in the bargain bin and thought 'hurrr, this might be good'

Who's heard of Company of Heroes? Alot of People!
Who's heard of Theatre of War? ..................

To physically slow down the game so it's in slow-mo, or slows down the ai , so they're not constantly chucking **** at you/ takin your points.

If the latter, i'd love to know how. I love taking it slow, but moderately challenging. Having enemy recon jeeps being thrown at your troops all the time is NOT fun.

It just slows down the game speed, from a little to a lot, you can also reset the speed and speed it up
Mods here
http://www.members.optushome.com.au/blitzforce/Temp2/

to use it - put autoexec.lua into your COH folder. Then create a new shortcut to the RelicCOH.exe and put this at the end of the target field -dev
You have to run COH from this new shortcut for it to work

Press Z to slow down 1 value, each keypress decreases speed by one. Press X to increment speed up 1, press Q to reset speed. Shift Z or X to speed up or slow down by 5

place the camera.lua into your \Company of Heroes\WW2\Data folder to use the mouse scroll for zoom in/out
I developed the camera one myself, and got the speed one from Relic forums.

If you want to tweak the AI so they don't spam stuff like you say, try the 2 AI mods here http://forums.relicnews.com/forumdisplay.php?f=195

What I would like to see added is a hold fire option for all units not just things like snipers. Then you can sneak past units and set up ambushes properly rather than having your units fire at anything they see. The ability to enter occupied buildings would be quite cool too and have them fight it out, much like the Close Combat series. :)

Theatre of War update will have building combat, so it will be much more like CC than COH ever will be :)

I wished it was as far as combat distances go :)

and the landscape is odd looking, it's not really 3D in a realistic way, more like some funky puesdo concoction.

well this has taught me something, i simply wont post about games i like that are missing from the list anymore (at least not ww2 ones) because people seem to think anything to do with ww2 has to be 100% realistic in order to be fun. I mean people like the movie Kellys heros but no one ever claimed it was real nor did anyone think it was. I think xendance is on the money here. I feel sorry for the poor sap who posted the portal thread now... "OMFG YOU CAN'T WALK THROUGH WALLS IN RL this game =teh suck"

(btw i know i'm gunna get insulted for this but its nothing personal against the realism boys, as you know i am one of them i just like to have a little bit of RTS manic fun every now and then and i didn't expect people to cast doubts on my intellegence etc, implied not directly, just for playing a game i enjoy)

Stop with the goddamn elitism. It's almost as annoying as gays who are like "oh hi we're different".

I'm not being elitist at all, i just hate to see all of my favourite game series get butchered for people who hardly play any games at all.
I've been around for a pretty long while, starting out with DOS games and moving up from there and it's getting more drastic each day.
Look at what they did to Rainbow Six, look at what they did to Ghost Recon, to name two? And for whom? For people who dont bother to buy the games anyway cause they'll download it somewhere illegally!

Then another thing. I dont mind unrealistic games.
I dont mind them, as long as they are in fictional settings. When it is used in real stuff, things that happened or still happen, i get annoyed. When it's overglorified, i get pissed off. To me, that's just disrespectfull. Could be me, but that is my opinion.
I love TF2, as i loved Sin and Sin: Episode1 and other run and gun games, as long as they are not being overhyped.
When things get 'hypie' i still dont mind playing the game but it will have to prove itself to me first.
And that's not easily done, at least not anymore.

I'm pretty sure that no WW2 veterans were offended by the balance polarity of Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts.

How is it disrespectful if you don't have everything perfectly like it was?

No one is going to come up and be like, "When I was fighting the third reich our tanks had treads that were this high, not that high. You're spitting in my eye here!"

As long as it captures the spirit of the event, it is usually ok. It's one thing to portray the Airborne as a bunch of huge guys who parachuted down and started rending the Germans with their bare hands and tossing them 100 yards, but this is different...

There's no reason to create some creative barrier and claim that you can't have fictional events happen in a real setting...after all...that's what most fiction work is.

well i think disaster makes a good point in some respects. Anyone remember the MOH:AA ad that ran "Welcome to Omaha beach there is a 79% chance it's the last thing you'll see" I remember the vets made them withdraw the ad and rightly so. However i enjoy games like RTCW and COH because they remind me that even in something as terrible as the second world war there is humour (albeit dark) and a plethora of source material ripe for fiction and enjoyable game play.

Relic screwed up RO with COH-OF...they added a totaly campy fanction alongside the OP PE...i played the closed beta from day ONE and COH since the original Beta. I dident buy OF for several reasons.

First...they dident manage to balance their new races right

Second...RelicOnline is alot more crappyer as ever before..

Third...i played it for like a year, every day...i needed a break.

I did skinpacks for it ( COH ) but iam so bored of the game now...:(

We tried to get out messages across to relic during the closed beta stage. But remember, "content closed" already.

One thing that really gets me about CoH is the cheesier than **** abilities. I mean, damn, it's a war, not some kind of weird fantasy game with elves and stuff. I just want consistency and believability.

KrazyKraut-RO artillery shells don't bounce off tanks. These shells that bounce off are fired from howitzers firing shells into the sky to rain back down on you. They can land on top of the Panther and bounce off.

Umm, anyone hear heard of blitzkreig? (the game) seems to meto be the same thing (though untill I read this thread I had only the vaugest of ideas what COH was).

Also seems to me as if blitzkreig (or at least blitzkreig2 ) addresses most of the negative points of COH, whilst being considerably cheaper.

Wow, I tried that Theatre of War game's demo after playing Opposing Fronts and that game isn't optimized worth ****. It runs at about 2fps even with nothing going on while Opposing Fronts runs smooth maxed out at 1680*1050. Maybe that's why no ones heard of it .

Funny, Theatre of War runs perfectly fine on my notebook. All settings maxed out. Meanwhile, Company of Heroes is a memory hog and constantly crashes.

Yeah tell me about it Shepherd. It gets worse once in game. The "Panzer Elite" are a rough approximation of a Panzer Grenadier company but guess what? They don't get any tanks at all. In fact, all they get is this one bloody Panzer IV F1 (and this is supposed to be Market Garden of all things) and a Marder III. I stopped playing the game after I was supposed to repel an "Airborne Jeep assault" during the first mission of the campaign. I sat there trying to find some way to understand what the **** a jeep assault was then I gave up and played Theatre of War.
