Yeah. It's almost like the game is set in a fictional universe.

Even then, 213's post makes no sense in a historical sense. Even in the age when plate armor was being used, there were still plenty of armies equipping their infantry with mail during the middle ages. Lighter armor allows for greater mobility and is much cheaper than plate. Oh the trolls.

battle for agatha? as in aunt agatha? seriously, the devs behind that mod/game have made so many stupid mistakes. going commercial was one. changing agathia to agatha was another. bes tof luck to them. they're going to need it

I wonder how the melee combat mechanics compare to M&B.

The Source mod was essentially M&B in first person on smaller battlefields.

Medieval Warfare looks like its damage model and accuracy is many leagues ahead of M&B's, and if it fixes the problems the Source mod had, it'll be way deeper too.

Chivalry has a stamina mechanic as well. If you know M&B you know how important that is, since it doesn't have one at all.

Yah. M&B is really rudimentary where it comes to bodies. Just hitboxes with three areas of different armour values, and a shared HP pool. Stamina and a more complex injury model are dearly necessary.

What M&B does have, however, is essentially a nice, albeit simplified - to its very basics -, simulation of Liechtenauer's fencing teachings. I hope something similar is included in Chivalry.

I seriously disliked PVKII's melee combat. The "charging" of melee strikes, the huge amount of damage necessary to kill, and the timing-based blocking (IIRC), as well as the source engine's endemic handling issue of characters feeling like fridges on wheels rather than like human bodies...

Meh.

In the way you attack with swords?

The Chivalry Source mod did have various methods of attack but they were all parried and blocked the same way. You still had to be very fast and very accurate with parries or they wouldn't connect though. Hopefully they add more options in Medieval Warfare. Beyond that it hasn't really been very accurate as far as actual fighting styles that were used in the medieval period.

Also, with the stamina mechanic it's possible to wear down someone who blocks or attacks too much and overwhelm them, and that is sorely missed in M&B where the guy with a long axe can just swing all day and parry without missing a beat. It's much less focused on tactics and more focused on abusing poor mechanics.

In Chivalry if you swing a big sword or halberd a few times you'll find yourself having a hard time defending incoming hits, so you really have to think about what you're doing.

Well, one thing I really can't stand is when someone parries high, and someone else attacks with an overhead swing, and the parry is completely ignored because it was started a few milliseconds too early.

Hope it won't be like that. In all else, I'm intrigued.
