That could be pretty controversial, especially if it takes place in Bosnia more specifically. Also, I personally would not be comfortable playing a game based on those events, as i was actually there. It's far too recent for me, even if it is over.
You wouldnt want to kill serbs?

And this is to Bolt: Well maybe if they didnt cause so many unspeakable atrocities, they wouldnt have such a hard time. Not saying that the Serbian people as a whole "have it coming", but you should understand that there will be a great amount of resentment over what they did to every country surrounding them.

Look if you guys are going to argue over politics, national policy, war crimes, racial and religious issues take it to the mess hall. Last I checked this is a discussion for modifications to red orchestra ostfront.

No I'm not a moderator but it pisses me off to see crap like this going on when I'm in here trying to A)Get help on mutators/mods that I need, and B)Trying to teach myself how to do mods/mutators.

The last 2 pages of this thread are about social issues and have nothing to do with modifications to ro. maybe split the thread so that others can have their heated debate elsewhere, I want to discuss the practicality of mods and coding them.

K BACK ON TOPIC, I never thought that this thread would keep going when i posted it lol. Lots of things are offensive to people, but heck if they made a game about the war in Iraq I'm sure a lot of people would play it.

As for balance issues this can easily be solved.

-First is the scale, we wouldn't incorporate all of the Russians things like helicopters and jets and the like.

-As for artillery, the Chechens always have readily avalible mortar fire from the mountains.

-To counter inevitable Russian tanks, we can have it so that there are only T55's up to T-72's and no T-90's (since they don't have many T-90's anyways) And in real life the Chechens have many, many, many different types of anti-tank weapons, from regular RPG's to recoiless rifles.

I don't know if it would be a very exciting idea for many people because they would have to work together on the Chechen team if they wanted to win.

Upon adding up all the details, to me, a Chechen war mod would be fun and exciting to play.

However because of the balance issues when given to the average gamer I don't think it would work out.

THEREFORE, I think that a more balanced Eastern European based warfare mod would be the Yugoslavian Civil War.

Each side was balanced with tanks, planes, and helicopters. Also each side had its own legit army as well as its own irregular guerrilla force.

(As for Beslan, many Chechens couldn't care less because to them, Beslan happens every day in Chechnya.)

Instead of concentrating on a single conflict that will stir up controversy, why not just set it during the late 20th century itself? You could cover Chechnya, Bosnia, the Iran-Iraq War, Israel's constant conflicts with the Arab world, Angola, Congo/Rwanda/Tanzania and the rest of the African conflicts, the Somali civil war, any of the Cold War proxy wars and revolutions, or really any of dozens of possible scenarios.

One map you could be a rebel pushing across Rwanda, the next a rebel fighting in the Hungarian Revolution, or one of Batista's soldiers in the Cuban Revolution. If the 20th century had one thing, it was bushwars.
