Character shouting in game, please let us have the option to make our character mute?

But wouldn't it be very tactically unsound to go to a new position with an empty or near empty clip, when it could be full of enemies?

And also, if you have teammates nearby to "fire off" the shout clip, they're going to be making noise too in all likeliness.

I switch to my pistol. My LMG doesn't do me much good unless I'm prone anyway. Plus, I've had him shout to himself when there aren't any teammates around, or any teammates that I'm aware of...

I really would like a mute button, it destroys my immersion when I have to think about stuff like not sprint charging with bayonet cause my warcry will alert them.

Fun fact, the bayo + battle cry suppresses the people you're running at. I'm going to try and get my clan together and then bayo charge an enemy position just to see how intense the suppression is...

All great if 5000 Red Army riflemen are charging across the plain to your trench...not so great in RO2 when 1 guy is trying to sneak across the street quickly and gives the holy hail mary, lung busting cry...*as all heads turn to wonder what the hell that guy had in his water canteen*

I'm cool with the context sensitive "RELOADING!" and other expletives and whatnot during a firefight, but the issue I have is when you are trying to sneak about and your soldier moans about being tired.

Just a comment: if your character's stamina bar is exhausted and he starts gasping for breath and talking about being tired, for one you have been sprinting so you can't claim to be be "sneaking about". Sprinting is not sneaking, and sneaking is not sprinting. For two, if you want to "sneak about" after sprinting, all you have to do to stop being tired is stop sprinting and stay in one place for a moment. If you are simultaneously trying to sneak and exhaust your stamina bar, you're doing it wrong.

But overall, I'm mixed about the auto-vocalizations. On one hand I like them and the flavor they add to the game. They are part of the soundscape of RO2 which is one of the better aspects. They really add atmosphere to the firefights and they lend some battlefield awareness too. It helps me know if my teammates are nearby, and also to know to some extent if there are enemies nearby. And also for many situations I don't have to fumble with voice commands to call something out, the game streamlines that for me, which I like because it shouldn't take as long as it takes with any conceivable voice comm system to just blurt something out. I know this is the great thing about VOIP, but honestly sometimes I don't use it because I am playing late at night and my family would not appreciate me waking them up with my RO2 chatter, and also VOIP breaks realism the other way in that only teammates hear you.

On the other hand, I know it only makes sense to be able to suppress the urge to say something in situations when stealth is important. But I feel that to be able to just toggle it off without restrictions is not the answer, because it would quickly become a game where everyone was just silent, which would be a shame, just my opinion. I do feel like there should be a limit to it, however "unrealistic" that is...(to anyone who would say it's untactical or unrealistic to not be able to stay silent for however long you choose, please turn off your VOIP and also log off your clan's vent server, because these are unrealistic ways of handling battlefield communication, too).

For one, if there is a toggle command to stay quiet or perhaps a quite mode for crouchwalking, like others have mentioned certain things should not be able to be turned off. Cries of pain or alarm are for the most part involuntary. Yes, in real life we have an ability to suppress these, but for the most part we wind up blurting stuff out. I think that's realistic enough.

Speaking of suppression, how about just making it so that if there is any suppression in your suppression bar at all, the toggle or quiet mode gets turned off and all vocalizations become active again, reflecting that suppression is a somewhat primal, excited state where there is less superego control of one's exclamations. Even though suppression can come from random nearby or even friendly fire, there's a maybe good chance that you are suppressed because an enemy already knows you are there anyway. Same could go for exhaustion, just for good measure. And then the stamina and suppression bar would have to be replenished, to calm your character down to be able to turn it back to quiet mode. This would be a compromise solution which retains some flavor for the battlefield experience without sacrificing needed situational stealth. Just to make it so that it isn't a "set it and forget it" toggle that allows you to be in stealth mode the entire game.

No offence but could that fanboy "go to" statement die? Especially with all the videos now it's not blindly whining when you can see how the system works at the moment.

I've SEEN the beta videos, I've SEEN how it works already -- it's a sh*ty system. What do I need to wait for?

This logic:
 fanboy: "so im going to punch you in the balls like this" <punches guy in the balls who then falls over with tears in his eyes> "OK?"

:( you: "i'm thinking no, that will suck"

 fanboy: "...? dude just wait until you've tried it before you decided it's bad... JESUS"

:( you: "am I being trolled?"
Why is ANYONE against making this OPTIONAL? If you want your character to moan and talk 24/7 giving your position away, that's fine man knock yourself out. Why impose it on me too though?

Edit: ^ I made that just for you Filo90
LOL I agree.

This is probably one of the magical casino fictional charcter bonuses TWI has planned for your 'An Hero' as a magical reward for racking up a score as mass-murder -- somehow you're character (after dieing thousands of times from yacking his head off constantly) figures it out, and and shuts the *u*k up...

Just a comment: if your character's stamina bar is exhausted and he starts gasping for breath and talking about being tired, for one you have been sprinting so you can't claim to be be "sneaking about".
If he's so breathless and tired, why is he yacking his head off about it? Yes let's tell any Russians near by Dieter is too exhausted to go on... Here he is, right here, whineing and complaining, so breathless all he can think about is...talking...

:D

Well of course not. That would imply she was putting bullets into a gun every time you were nearby, which is a pretty poor indicator of your relationship. ;)
Er... My remark had more entandres then just a double, and was directed at all the gratuitous mouth to *** action here on the forums from Fans to TWI... Who, is paying who for what after all?

But now Herr Josef, I am so exhausted, I must rest...

;);) and

...if I hear about another Iron Cross Mass giveaway... I mean seriously, what kind of pompous arrogant fool would go around yelling "I will get the Iron Cross for this" ..would likely get you thrown in the brig!

Or the constant screaming, the moment you shoot more then 3 rounds in a row...

Or your genius tank crew members telling you to not use up all your fuel, when you have been sitting in the same place for 5 minutes...

and the REAL killer is, Not only are you broadcasting your position (I have gotten plenty of guilty kills hearing the enemy shouting about nonsense) as you try (assuming you dont camp all day) to press the enemy's position.... IS THAT YOU CANT TURN OFF YOUR OWN MOUTH

we were told in beta (or maybe I was being hopeful and made that up) that the voice options not responding to "Critical Only" or "Minimal" would actually work when the game was being released... and if they "Do" then no matter what setting I have tried my character has still blabbed on and on about obvious bull puppies

sorry for the rant, but it really kills the immersion when you get angry at your own guy telling yourself about the 30th Iron cross you will give yourself in a match.

I wouldn't consider myself a sneaky player, but I do like to surprise my enemies when I can... and the worst thing is when your exact position is exposed when your character yells some nonsense about iron crosses or pants-shtting when you are trying to flank an enemy in the next room.

The feature actually checks if there are team mates nearby to shout reload to. If there aren't any, your soldier will not call out.

"nearby" is highly subjective. In urban fighting you are almost always "nearby" both allies and enemies, in those cramped spaces I'd prefer to have some level of discretion.

This is very true. It should check if you're in the same room as your allies before he opens his gob (or if your allies are within a certain range outside).

They really shouldn't be shouting to each other through walls.

I think the feature can be helpful in certain situations, but certainly not always. I realize time in a development cycle for a small dev team is precious, but this is basically a design decision. I imagine checking for friendly's is more complicated to implement than simply turning the talking for your character off.

As with everything, freedom of choice is good.

To be fair to the way it actually plays, "exact position" is a huge exaggeration. You don't blip on the guy's minimap just because you said something. He still has to look around. Yea, he knows whether to look left or right, but that's by no means an "exact position". It also happens that I can hear stuff going on in the floor above or below me and I can't really tell which.

It helps the enemy know you are nearby. It doesn't give away your exact position.
