Everytime someone types something or speaks, it's always the same generic portrait, and quite frankly, the same repetitive portrait that pops up doesn't serve much purpose when it comes to identifying the player speaking.

So why not allow players to upload their own unique avatars, that way whenever someone is saying something, we'll be able to identify the person at a quick glance, and it give each of us a sense of identity and uniqueness?

What could also be proposed is that for players with webcam installed, everytime they hit the "speak" button to talk, we'll be able to see them speaking in sync with the voice we are hearing too!

It's a no from me. I love the portrait, because every time I speak, Mike Noble's rape face is on every player's screen.

EDIT: If the portrait is still an option, by all means I support this idea...

I think this wouldn't hurt so long as the customization doesn't involve changing the size of the icon and no .gif files or something crazy like that. I don't wanna be watchin a mini cartoon while I'm playing.

I am in agreement too. But the existing character portrait should be most prevalent, where the steam icon would be in a corner of the current - probably 1/8 size of it and maybe even sticking off the chat popup

Since killing floor fetches your name from steam, I don't think it's difficult to do so with your icon. Problem would be with those who do not have one. But still, I think replacing that portrait with your steam icon is a good idea.

If you haven't played with the same group before identifying individual players by picture would be tough. As far as telling if this player was the last that spoke or not doesn't seem like a big deal. Otherwise, if they are using a mic then you have a rough idea of who they are.
Also I have seen way too many time that the pictures from steam would be rude, annoying, explicit, disgusting, or too poor quality to know what they are.

people would put up porn on their custom portrait and then hold down the mic so it would pop up on peoples screens

Install a mic ban button lol :D or portrait default vote (Something i just made up basically if enough users are tired of the portrait the player has they can vote and demote the picture too a default character portrait.) :D

still, that just lets the trolls ruin it for everyone. the mic portrait is NOT the place to let people put up custom pictures.

above their heads gmod style or on the scoreboard would be nice. (the scoreboard needs massive changes anyway)

you shouldn't be staring at the scoreboard :p

still i like the feel i mean isn't this like Unreal Tournament? Unreal Tournament had custom portraits.............. they use the engine they could copy a little bit of em :O or whatever.............. Im sure people would get mature enough half the people in KF i play with are either hardcore or bored people lol. SO troll or not im up for it- Gmod's by the way was kinda cool but this is about being to differentiate from other players.

Since the portrait would be fetched from steam's image, and steam does have some policies on that, then you could just report him. There's even a button for that.

Plus, most people do not have porn or offensive as their icon (check tf2 for "proof").

well if it depended on their steam icon then that might work, but being able to set it in-game would lead to dumb crap.

I thought TF2 is what made explisive images famed as sprays :O (HEY! KF DOESN'T HAVE SPRAYS!!!!!)

counter strike had sprays long before tf2 ever did and they've got nothing but porn and loli junk

How about character portraits that reflect the "mood" of the character? If you shout "Help!" You'd get a character waving his arms in the portrait or something.

Or is that just a bit silly? .___.

Anyway, I'd like to spray my avatar somewhere, so I support this o.o

Wha? Wouldnt that create lags or something. Never seen this feature in any game.

Anyway, sadly I have to agree with Omar, if custom images were allowed there would definately be some spam issues with the people who desperately want their image to be seen.
