Changing MG barrels?

I had a friend firing away on Apartments with his MG while I was playing 'Johnny on the spot' and ferrying ammo between the re-supply and him. Eventually his MG barrel started to overheat and ultimately it got destroyed.

We were playing as the Allies; I was wondering if there was a way to change MG barrels so that it wouldn't be destroyed and unusable. Are changeable barrels only available to the MG34?

6 is the 'function' key for weapons.
for MG this means 6 is change barrel.

Took me a while to figure this out, used to default b from RO1

My friend tried 6 after I told him it was the function key, but it still wasn't changing the barrel for him. This was with the Russian MG.

AFAIK the DP28 can't change barrels.

It can't change barrels, most machine gunners were never issued spares.
