Hey how do I censor the word "***" without getting "assault" or "class" censored?

you can sensor the individual word by adding a space "*** " although its still easy to avoid that way. In general I'd say don't bother with language filters.

Yeah I tried that, but if someone says the word without the space, it is not censored... There should be an exceptions list.

My theory is:
Set up your normal censors. If they feel that they must circumvent them, then they obviously don't respect your rules for your server. Ask them nicely or put up a message asking them to refrain from doing so. If they persist. Ban 'em. One problem solved.

Some people have no respect for anyone, I wouldn't give them the time of day.

Couldn't agree more

Would be nice if we could use regular expressions to define censors....

For example, anyone can say FFUUCCKK although I censored the word, but it won't work.

True, but you can't do this if you don't always have an admin on the server.

I agree, and that is how we run our server, but that's beside the point of the original question.

Zing... you got me!

The whole word is not completely censored . Assault becomes ****ualt. Class becomes Cl****. Asshole becomes ****hole. A pain for civilized folk to be sure...

I remember a program we had for MoH:AA and CoD that used expressions. Once understood, it was pretty powerful stuff. I've never seen that in a stock filter for a game and have missed its agility in pinpointing and recongnizing what should/should not be filtered.
