Understandably, at some point everyone who plays this game will reach level 5 with all of their perks. As mentioned elsewhere, this puts the players in a frustrating position where:

1. Normal mode a little too easy.
2. Hard mode is a little too intense.

On top of this, the player reaches a point where the RPG aspect of the game ceases, and nothing but 'achievements' are left to be earned.

My idea was to have something similar to the system (i think) COD4 used regarding their perk system. Once you maxed out at Level 55, you could revert back to Level 0, yet you gained something significant (I believe it was some badge of honor that displayed next to your name). You then had to play from Levels 0 - 55 before you were given the option to cash in your stats for another badge.

Perhaps KF could implement something similar to this, in which, once all perks were maxed, the user has the option to cash them in for something. Even if it's as inane as a simple graphic appearing next to their name, it's still incentive enough to play through the game again (imo, at least).

The reason I say all perks should be maxed in order for this to occur is because this encourages players to spread out their skills by leveling up each perk to its max. It also deters players from maxing, say, Support Specialist over and over, trading in the same perk for a bonus.

Any thoughts on this? I think this has significant potential as far as the replay value is concerned.

You can reset your perks, but it resets achievements as well. Add this line to your killingfloor.ini

[Engine.SteamStatsAndAchievementsBase]
bResetStats=true

Be sure to take that line out when you load up Killing Floor and checked to see if everything is reset, or it will keep resetting upon every restart.

On a side note, there wouldn't be any replay value, since Perk Leveling is boring anyways. Good replay value would be having Campaign/Story mode.

I'll be glad when everyone is level 5 in everything. Then the only ones left playing will be the ones who play the game because they enjoy playing instead of the compulsive grinders.

I indeed like the idea, when i played COD4 i always prestiged, and it always let me at a disadvantage when i continued to play, and i love challenges and the little badge worked for me to :).
but i think they should also add new perk and maybe increase how far the perks go...Maybe giving you different character skins on resetting your perks.

Well in COD5, you get a lot more than just a nice new icon by your level, you actually get more custom classes slots. It takes a LOT of work to get your additional 5 custom classes, making it 10 custom classes in total, but you don't hear people complaining about it. They just keep playing the game.

Having nothing more than a new skin, or an icon I don't think is enough. It'd be nice to get a reward, that is useful, but not overwhelmingly so. It would also drive people towards playing more, to get that reward.
If people want to complain about there being a reward that is tough to achieve, then let them complain. You can't please everyone, and you wouldn't even hear the complaining, if you're in the game playing. Meanwhile, they're staying weak, maybe they'll quit, and we'll have one less whiner ruining the game for everyone else.

More rewards, less whining, less compromises. more, More, MORE!!

I like this idea. I'd definitely reset all of my level 5 perks for a new icon or a golden weapon or whatever. It would keep me playing more and more and add another goal since this game only has 1 mode.

What about resetting your perks (all five) to gain an additional perk. The system repeats itself however many times for all the new perks they add.

Of course, new perks would require new weapons and tools and bits, but that's fine with me. I would prefer something substantial and useful as opposed to a dinky little graphic that loses it's charm after a week or so.

And of course, the nature of the system itself makes it so you have one more perk each time to level to max, increasing the re playability, as long as the perks aren't a slogging fest. "Kill 200,000,00 fleshpounds with a 9mm pistol without headshots!".

This is exactly my point.

It matters not what the reward is, so long as you are left with some physical proof that you have completed all perks to level 5 (that at least broadcasts to other players, rather than just having the achievement).

I agree with you that replay value should come from a campaign/story mode, however I have to venture the question, "Why should replay value be limited to strictly that aspect?"

If you reset your perks/achievements with your described method, there is no solid evidence to anyone that you have completed anything. Therefore, there is no real enticing reason to reset your perks at all.

I feel if there was something to entice players to reset and play through the game again once they max their perks, then more players would be inclined to do so. I for one don't find perk leveling boring... Especially if it earns me something, regardless of what it is that I'm earning (be it a simplistic icon, or some other in-game status symbol).

I feel it's a simple, yet effective way of lengthening the replay value of the game. Rather than adding new content, it works with what the game already possesses.

Furthermore, it remedies the issue that many players are facing in which they feel the need to segregate servers based upon perk levels. Many level 5's feel disheartened to play alongside level 1's and 2's, simply because of the large damage-contribution gap. If level 5's were given the option to reset perks while still moving forward in the game, it would alleviate this problem.

I don't know, I truly think it's something for the team to consider.

EDIT: Another idea I had pop into my head - Rather than icons, what about using emitters that trigger on your specific character? You could add something like a glowing effect that increases with each reset, making yourself look more and more godly? Not sure how this would work, haha...

Heck, I'll give you purple sparkles and fairies if you want it too. I'd rather have prestige perks or weapons.

LOL!

On a more serious note:

I'd love to see extra perks and weapons as well, but in regards to the amount of work the dev team would need to accomplish in order to do this (balancing, modeling, texturing, animating), it seems like a pipe-dream... But we can certainly dream! :D

For simplicity's sake, a small visual indicator (or something akin to this idea) is totally within the grasp of the dev team's efforts. It's a minute tweak that can have exceedingly grand results.

If they wish to go farther with the idea and implement prestige perks/weapons, by all means be my guest! It's just that from the current standpoint in development, it seems less realistic to me.

Oh, here's an idea. What about a small "trophy" on the skins of your characters? Or a specifically chosen one? For instance, one of the soldiers might get a campaign badge on his lapel, cops might get a special patch (both are exchangeable betwen em actually) our forgeman aught to get a bloody crowbow (camio anyone?) attached to his overalls, maybe some fancy looking device on mr.biohazmat, some mixing equipment or vinyls on the DJ, and some fancy newfangled glowie/shiney/dangerous armor bit (glowing eye visors?) for our very own agent wilkes.

This is something that will distinguish you, as well as your favorite toon. Give you a lot to work for (give options in choosing the added bit, and give us a lot to choose from!) and soon you can tell the veterans from the newbies by how grizzled and veteran-like they appear!

Adding in a small effect or detail for the skins aught not to be so difficult, though I could see a system for choosing said "trophy" might.

Maybe when you reset your first perk, you get a 7th custom slot, then with each perk you reset, you gain more goodies to put into that slot. But you can onlyadd a certain number of goodies.

Custom perks? that could be game breaking..but I do like the idea.
