Some little prick busted the mirror off of the drivers side of my car. I live in Illinois and have googled to hell to find out if not having the mirror is illegal. I know if you have rear window tint you have to have two outside mirrors.

I think the law is this... you have to have a outside mirror on your drivers side.

but the law might be, you have to have 1 mirror on the outside regardless of which side.

I have a mirror ordered but I need to go places before it will get here. Lets just say my legalities of driving are a little questionable as is. I don't need a reason to be pulled over.

I've been driving with a broken taillight for the past 6 weeks, so far nothing's happened to me. I think you'll be fine until it (the mirror) gets to you.

In many countries in Europe its a must to have left and right outside mirrors. How it is in US... no ideea but there you can also drive the cars presented in 'Pimp my ride' show....

You ever notice it says "Objects in mirror may be closer than they appear" yet everything to me looks farther away? What kind of BS is that.

Reread: If it says that they may be closer than they appear it just says that they are closer than you see them ;) So all's well.

And concerning the stae of cars allowed to drive: once in hungary I saw a car (possibly Lada or Trabant, though they usually don't rust, as they are made of plastic :D) which was basically just the engine and wheels with a camping seat on top of it... and it was still going!

You confused me :_

Car in mirror - 5-6 car lengths
Turn around and look out the window - within like 2 car lengths

That's just the phenonemon the text "objects in the mirror may be closer than they appear" describes.

It means that the car in the mirror may be (or rather: IS) closer than it looks in the mirror.

Exactly, the car was closer than it appeared in your mirror.

Well I think things in the mirror usually appears to be closer than they are. Say if I go in reverse purely by mirror (which I often do , since the cars at work dont have rear windows) I feel like I'm gonna bump into the wall/car/post any second, but when I actually look afterwards I wasnt even close.. so for me, objects in the mirror appear closer than they actually are.

EDIT: Damnit managed to screw up a sentence, corrected now.. I hope :S
