alright. so last night a friend of mine bought me killing floor as a gift on steam. i downloaded it, started it up and it was a little laggy so i went into the video options menu to drop the graphics detail and resolution a little bit. first the text was replaced with nothing but random dots. now the game wont start at all, and it gives me this message....

Build UT2004_Build_[2004-11-11_10.48]

OS: Windows NT 6.1 (Build: 7600)
CPU: GenuineIntel PentiumPro-class processor @ 2934 MHz with 1789MB RAM
Video: No Video

General protection fault!

History: UWindowsViewport::TryRenderDevice <- UWindowsViewport::OpenWindow <- UGameEngine::Init <- InitEngine <- FMallocWindows::Free

i tried un-installing it and re installing it hoping that would clear things up but that didn't work. i have no idea what to work and it pisses me off that i just got this game and cant play it. i know i have video otherwise i wouldn't be able to make this post. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Find the killingfloor.ini file in the Steam\steamapps\common\killingfloor\system folder and delete it. Alternatively delete the whole killingfloor\system folder. You may have to verify the game cache after doing so. One of the graphics settings on lowest will cause the text to become corrupt like this on some systems.

Try one or all of the following:

  • verify game cache through Steam
  • Close Steam, delete clientregistry.blob file in the Steam folder, restart Steam
  • Change your Steam download location

This is great advice, considering I had all the same errors! A friend did the same for me, actually, and when I lowered the settings it went nuts!
