I play paintball, mainly 'woods ball' (Played in trees, with random bunkers and stuff, not the open field with the old cable spools, pipes, or giant air bags.)

I can't say I've seen a spot in any map in RO2 that was any worse of a spot to drop to the ground in than I've come across on a paintball field.

I have left chunks of skin behind to dodge .68 cal balls of gelatin traveling at less than 300 feet per second. I have squeezed up against wood, brick, concrete, dirt and even snow walls to make myself a smaller target. I have crawled kilometers through ditches that were barely 12 inches deep, and 24 wide (Not at all once, but they add up.), squeezing myself through bends. All to avoid a small paintball that is barely even going to leave a mark through my jacket.

I have rolled through broken glass and thorn bushes (Knowledge of them was attained post-rolling). I have been cut, I have bled, and I have been shocked that I have yet to actually break more than skin and gear. I have suffered minor swelling to avoid paintballs.

And you are going to tell me a soldier is going to stand there and go "No! I don't want to lay down there, I might bump my head!" as high powered rifle rounds whiz by, inches from his head?

Honestly, the whole movement system while prone needs to be reworked. Contrary to what some people are trying to do these days, humans are NOT planks. We bend and move very well, and can squeeze into surprisingly small spaces. Want to know just how small of a space a human can be squeezed into? Go to your local high school and ask the geekiest looking boy you can find.

I can think of no stupider thing than those photos, err I mean than the clumsy prone prohibitions in the game.

In real life if you wanted to drop to the ground but there edge of a building or a table were in the way, you do NOT just stand there like an idiot waiting to get shot.

Your knees still give out, your weight still sends you down, if a wall or table are in the way your body naturally moves to the point that it keeps dropping.

Maybe they thought people would like not like it if they went prone and ended sticking out into the line of fire when that was not their intention.

But I also get REALLY tired of hitting prone and not going prone when there is no table or wall to stop me.

This happens on ramps leasing out of trenches, in craters, many various other times.

I do not mean at times when I am "suppressed" or wounded.

I believe they do it on purpose when you are under suppression or received a craze wound, etc. as a way to have panic or confusion be part of the game.

That is annoying, but sensible. It is the times when I am not under direct fire and it happens that I hate. It very quickly brings me under fire far too often.

The most annoying instance of this I've come across is on barracks, on one of the stairs. I couldn't go prone on the stair (in the middle of it), but I COULD go prone on the ground in front of it and then crawl up

Luckless tells it how it is.

Or how it should be.

Do Tripwire even care?

Problem lies with the programming and how the game thinks it should be done. Reality of the game and reality of the world are two different things. You can't lay down because the game doesn't let you. There is one more thing I hate more than "cannot prone here". It's "cannot deploy here". unproning - to some degree - I can control and in most cases prevent. Deployment I learn mostly when I try it.

Proneing works much more realistic in RO2. I hope they leave it exactly like it is now.

Only thing, get rid of the text saying i can't prone there. If need be show a small icon that blinks in the lower part of the hud instead.
Or better yet a visual slight movement/animation going down and up, to emphasize the denied prone action.

Arguments against fixing/tweaking proning:

#1 Going prone is realistic now.
-Like stated on posts, you cannot count on proning in arty craters, ramps, stairs and other terrain as long as the ground isn't smooth, plus (i'll get to this on #3) you cannot go prone in front of objects. That is not realistic.

#2 Proning is better in RO2 than ROost.
-I think no one here wants their legs to stick through walls. Improving the proning system does not mean choosing between RO1 or RO2.

#3 It is not possible to prone an object in front of you (unless you turn)
-It is, unless you are somehow handicapped. Soldiers in Stalingrad weren't. Either you do it like ROII4Me said, throw yourself down with your knees perhaps hitting the ground first, or you'll do it like I said and drop your balance down, kick your feet back in the air and drop down proning. In both cases you do not turn and are down almost instantly -like you should be. Like Luckless said, humans are not planks. Please see the artistic attachment pic.

#4 You might hurt yourself proning.
-Do you really think "You cannot prone here" while standing in an artillery crater is because the developers wanted to simulate rough terrain and lethal anthills? And do you think that a soldier in combat situation gives a damn about small scratches or even notices them? Read Luckless's post.
