Japanese grenade dischargers were interesting pieces of kit but anyone trying to put one on his knee might have a few problems.
Brilliant vid, but this is a RED ORCHESTRA MOD. In real life, would you really be able to look directly over your target? I agree, I just see a few flaws if you had it exactly the same in RS.If anyone here has played Forgotten Hope 2 (AAA WWII BF2 mod), they would know how well that mod's mortar/artillery aiming and firing system works.
Basically for those who don't know, the scout class calls in an artillery "spot" on the ground near a target. Then, somewhere else on the map, someone sets up a mortar or gets in an artillery piece, switches to the right "spot" (cycles through a list), and then zeroes in the dials on his scope. Then he can fire and adjust using an overhead camera that is placed directly over the spot at a 90 degree angle. As you select new spots from those available, you have to readjust, and also have to readjust if the spotted terrain is higher or lower than your mortar.
The spot only lasts for a minute or so, so arty teams must constantly work with spotters to be effective, and when they do work well together, artillery can be devastating. In addition to fixed artillery, the mod also has deployable mortar kits which are awesome for supporting an advance on the move.
Here's a video that illustrates how the arty spotting system works from the mortar man's point of view:

DARKEST HOUR also has two mortar ammo types: Boom and Smoke rounds.just to let you know DARKEST HOUR has MORTARS!
There is as a matter of fact. the 60mm one.I'm talking about - of course - the japanese mortar operated by one man.

When there's only one or a few per team I don't think it would make the game unbalanced. But is there american equivalent?
