Can we get rid of that UAV and radar?

I have to admit that i must back some of my words. I just watched a Zetsumei's interview with RammJaeger and I'm kinda impressed.

To make it straight:
- Recon plane is available only 1-2 times per game and it require some time to shown up.
- Recon plane is "active" only when commander is using the radio.
- Recon plane gives information about enemy infantry and vehicles with delay. Also plane cannot spot enemies inside the buildings or behind obstacles.
- Commander gives that information to Squad leaders with delay and than SL can share that info to soldiers if i understood good that delay might be around 5 seconds. Sounds reasonable.
Here clans can make it way faster b/c they usually are work together and use alternative voice communicators like TeamSpeak or Mumble
- Recon plane can be shot down by small arms

Overall I still think that role of the scout plane should be minimal for RO gamemode. I believe that will be very attractive for newcomers in relaxed realism, but original game shouln't have that. Or at least it (spotted enemy) shouldn't be visible on map. I still need to think about it how it could be useful there.

so, you're hinting that the only enemies that show up on the commanders map would be restricted to specific classes......mg, marksmen, commanders?

even if it's only a few classes that can be spotted, it's still infantry. like Lemon pointed out with his pictures in the main Gamescom thread, it's still unrealistic for a recon plane to be pinpointing infantry targets and communicate their exact locations to a commander on the ground. furthermore, if it's indeed true that the plane will only report specific classes, how realistic is that? you mean to tell me that the recon plane can pick out a concealed mg or sniper position, or spot the train conductors hat on a soldier to determine he's the commander?

edit: to repost what this feature would be realistic for
He didn't say they would make out specific class types at all. You're getting worked up over nothing.

As long as you can set it in server settings I don't care if they allow you to call in a giant air-dropped rhinoceros when you get 10 kills in a row.

interesting interview. Crazy that theres a delay feature to most players.

I guess if you hear a plane that means to move to an ambush position covering where you just where heh.

No, I don't think we ever said WHICH enemy show up :p

emphasis on WHICH.....to any normal person reading it, that would hint at or imply that he is referring to specific types of enemies such as classes of infantry or potentially even vehicles like :IS2: ;)

There are many things that are abstracted in the game in order for them to work, like artillery, respawning, and even basic communication. Why single out the recon planes for criticism when you could argue that soldiers didn't have universally available instant communication, didn't have instant super precise artillery strikes, and didn't face off against each other in always equal proportions with a maximum of 50 soldiers per square kilometer?

Furthermore, how is a feature that is available at limited times and/or quantities to only one player per team and requires a knowledge of the intricacies of the game mechanics in order to use effectively included in order to be "casual friendly" and attract CoD and BF players?

Stop posting your knee jerk reactions and actually think a bit.

I can't think my way around having a recon plane that pinpoints single soldiers to the officer. It'd be cool if only officer saw them and he'd have to communicate them via actually typing/talking in voip to his underlings, but afaik they'll get the info too with a delay?

Must agree with you Poerisija. Despite Ramm's explanation in the recent video intereview against a "blob" locator, it's also rediculous to imagine a recon observer providing exact soldier locations. Sure, the information is delayed by the system, but an artillery strike centered on a soldier's point could likely encompass his potential movements within it.

I still think using an area locator (and the size of the "blob" can be tweaked), is still better for authenticity and gameplay purposes.
