Can Spectate But Not Join

Through the server browser or via steam whenever attempting to join a server the game does nothing. If i don't have it launched and try to join on a friend the game successfully launches but doesn't attempt to join the server. Attempting to join through the server browser the game registers I clicked the join button then does nothing about it and gives no error messages

Stranger still i can spectate just fine

a little bit more info after some testing

so trying to join a full server will give me the "lost connection sever is full message" so it is correctly reading that I am clicking the join button.

Also I left the server browser up and had clicked join and went to do some laundry after getting no response from the game. I came back about 15 minutes later and was actually in the game, thinking my bug was miraculously fixed I left and tried to join a friends server to no effect. So far trying to recreate this has failed but who knows maybe its some sort of watched pot never boiling type situation
