when someone says that it's easy to get 20+ kill streaks and other nonsense kind of actions in a game like call of duty, i tend to believe them. the game is easy as hell, point and click affair. the weapons hardly have recoil and you can move and jump around like you weigh 50 lbs. so i don't believe anyone is actually boasting when they say that, but more highlighting the fact that the game is easy as hell and doing well in it is hardly something to be impressed about.

but of course feel free to get offended at that. it's kind of like getting offended at someone saying they can fart really loud or eat 2 scoops of icecream in a row.

I won't deny that pulling off that kind of kill streak requires no skill at all. The guy in that video clearly has some very fast reflexes and knows the ins and outs of the game in order to make such fast decisions.

The hard part about watching these videos is the game itself. The latest CoD iterations have turned first person shooters into some kind of weird sporting event, with play-by-play announcer-like messages popping up for everything you do in the world. At some point I almost forget that I'm using guns to shoot people ... the game totally dumbs down any grittiness by pasting all that weird "fake-ness" all over the screen.

The guns just end up feeling like personality-less "tools" for scoring points, just like a hockey stick is used to shoot goals or something. The same game would be just as interesting with people shooting paintball guns at each other and would actually make much more sense given all of the sporty messages and general aura of the game. At least Unreal Tournament embraced that sport-like nature of the game as its primary premise. CoD tries to tell you you are fighting in a warzone for a particular country but it is never believable, even in a shallow sense.

It just all seems like such a far cry from the multiplayer experience in the first Call of Duty games. It's amazing how fast things change.

Well, since it's so easy, why dont you do it then ? Or better yet, let's play one of those 1v1 matches you are speaking so highly of.
Yes, 1v1 is the epitome on FPS gaming skill.

But sure, if you want to, PM me your Steam profile link (searching by user name often does not work).

Ok, it's a slight exaggeration that it takes absolutely no skill. But any FPS gamer that's above average can pull something like that off. Also, this game was played in a public server, which means the opponents were most likely awful, which is often the case on these Nuketown servers.

German Front MOD for COD1/UO

+1 there. Except the airplane thing. The stupid tactical air support thing in the German Front mod was even more ridiculous than the tanks in UO. I loved UO, the base-assault game type especially. But the tanks never really felt like tanks...they were just tools within the game. That airplane thing though....good Lord, it was horrible.

Yeah Base Assault was awesome! It was one of the best modes to play with friends and required a lot of team work. Makes me want to find my UO cd and see if anyone is still playing on line!

Finally fixed the stuttering issue for me. Thought I might share, in case some others have the same problem.

1. Start the game
2. Alt tab out
3. ctrl alt delete > taskmanager
4. Right click on Blackops.exe set priority high
5. Right click on Steam.exe set priority low
6. Go back ingame

I've always figured that it had to do something with the games connection to steam, cuz I have a high end card. I do so much better in the game now. No more sudden spontanious fps stutters.

Played it.

If someone made a mod that allowed you to have multiple air vehicles in the sky at once for CoD4 and added a couple of new tiny "Shipment" style maps it would be Black Ops.

Mouse movement is kinda odd too, no matter what sensitivety setting I put it on it would still feel a bit jerky and inconsistent.

Oh hey look, a free weekend

Downloading it now. I couldn't stand CoD 4 and MW2 online. MW2 was worse because of the "wait for server to find a new host" issue every 5 minutes. How anyone can play a game with such awful server settings boggles my mind.

While BO might not have that issue, I think the gameplay will still probably be just as lame as the other CoD games I've played. But I might as well give it a try...

Edit: Tried it. Very boring, even more so than MW2. Tiny maps are so bad that I can memorize them in 3 minutes of play time. It gets repetitive quickly.

Lol @ free multiplayer weekend. Of course, if it had single player on it, a single afternoon would be enough for everyone to complete it, still leaving them some time to go picnic around.

Is not so much about the effort, is more about not defiling the hard drive with it =P

True! And then having to uninstall it and rid myself of those registry entries. I'd spend more time installing and uninstalling rather than playing.

...not to mention, my son and I are putting together his new computer this weekend so we will be preoccupied.
