Ive decided most people that have replied in this thread are losers. Mainly because they want uber realism OMG THATS NOT THE CORRECT WEAPON TO MATCH THE COLOUR OF THAT UNIFORM type stuff. CoD4 was great, not realistic, but why would they?? RO is realistic (ish) and it was never mainstream for a reason. You all want a history game, not an action game.
Imagine ROLadder if it had cod4's enjoyability and appeal.
The new game looks like it will be fun, not realistic, but fun. Thats all im after. I dont care if one one team has the wrong type of LMG or something like that, just as long as it shoots.
If you all want extreme realism, shouldnt you join the army??
Firstly, realism != reality. Just because we want a game to portray things accurately, doesn't mean we actually want to join the army.
I personally find it quite an insult to see (for example) a red dot sight on a G43 (not even mentioning how completely unnecessary it is putting it there in the first place). If you are going to take a real world item, portray correctly, at least visually.
Secondly, you can't really compare RO and CoD4. One is published, PC only, via Steam and is from a first time developer. And let's be honest, advertised pretty scarcely. Everyone I know personally who plays RO does so because of word of mouth. And even considering all of these factors, RO did very well.
CoD4 was published by Activision one of the biggest publishers going, on several platforms, and from a developer with some big name devs in the team, and with 2 big titles under their belt. Oh and let's not forget the massive advertising campaign, TV ads, cinema ads, online ads etc.
Action games don't have to be uber realistic to be good. But if you're setting them in a theatre that people know a lot about you could at least do your research and do it justice.
Imagine ROLadder, with CoD4's enjoyability and appeal....hmmm. Well I don't like CoD4, I think it has a very limited appeal, and I don't find it more enjoyable than, say CSS, DoD:S or any number of *FREE* multiplayer mods.
I might be able to understand the reasoning behind putting CoD4 into the guise of a ww2 shooter in order to lure in people who bypassed CoD4 because of its modern setting. But what I cannot understand is why you'd want to do it so poorly.
If you like CoD4, then ****ing play CoD4! You probably paid enough for it.
Why bother with CoD5 when it is just a shallow carbon copy?
