Bug or cheat...

A strange thing occurs yesterday night when I played on a server (unfortunately I don't remember the name but it was protected with VAC)

We played KonigsPlatz and I were German (like also a friend).
I succeed to workaround the map by the right and then arrive between the russian spawn and the memorial when I saw a russian guy proned on the cobblestones of the memorial : I shot him with at least 10 bullets (with a Gewehr 43) without effect on him !!! As he don't see me (and apparently don't detect that someone is shooting him) I move to him and I bashed it several times without results !! until I was kill by another russian guy.

Several times I experienced the same situation (and also my friend) : we shoot several times some russians and were sure to hit them but without hurt or kill them (but we succeed to kill like normally anothers russians players)

This kind of situation only occurs on this server, when we move to another servers we don't encounter this problem.


Does somebody already encounter the same issue?
Is it a (known) bug of the game/server or a cheat ?

My guess would be that the player was lagged out... IE he had lost connection, but the server hadn't completely given up on him yet. Did he move or do anything at all?

I have had a simmilar experience on a server where the CPU got overloaded.
So my guess is that the server where you where playing either has a to high player limit compared to the server preformance or some other process is leeching the preformance on the server.

Could be that the hitbox was obstructed/bugged. I had an instance last night where I was prone behind a pile of sandbags and I was shooting back and forth with a few enemies and it seemed we couldn't damage eachother until I moved out a little bit.

Were they able to shoot you at this time?

I remember reading something about the spawn areas in RO are protected? I think this was to reduce TKing, but I'm not sure if it applies to the enemy soldiers as well. I tested this in practice mode and I wasn't able to inflict any damage on the team bots until I was about 100 yds from the spawn area. Just a thought...

I were not in the spawn area of the ennemy (I hate spawn camping), I were in the memorial area that is an objective of the map => you can kill ennemies in this area.

to reply to BetManfire : for each shot I used the Iron sight and shoot him at ~5 meters

to reply to Dokteur Kill : the user was shooting with his rifle but it's true that there is no reaction of him when I shooted him or bashed him...

About hitbox, there is no obstacle between him and me

Regarding the remark of Fu. Svedberg, it's true that the server was full so it can be the reason of the problem (too much players configured regarding the real processing capacity of the server)

When I was messing about with bots, I tried to mow them all down when the game started (I always wanted to be an NKVD officer) and nothing happened.

The spawns most definitely are protected. This would be ok, except on maps where the spawn moves. Defending the Warehouses on Kessel when the Russian spawn point suddenly moves there is NOT COOL. Having 6 invincible Russians spawn in front of you is somewhat immersion breaking. So was my swearing after I emptied an entire clip with no effect, yet their bullets killed me just fine.

Yup. I have come across this a couple times now.
I'm no spawn camper, but I like to get behind enemy lines when trying to cap points. Only on the maps where the spawn points move up, obviously.

For instance... I was playing today on Koningplatz and the russians had us pinned down constantly hitting us with artilery, so I decided to take the long way around and get behind them to take them by surprise...
but I was the one who was surprised...
I got behind them and they were all proned behind a bank, shooting at my team mates, there were at least 6 of them so I said to myself "sweet! I should be able to take at least 3 of them out before they all turn around and kill me!"

I prone behind some cover... take aim... pop a few shots at one guy... I had the semi auto rifle. Nothing... I know I had hit him with at least a couple of the shots... or should have.
So I shoot a few more... emptied the clip on him... nothing.
I realise that this must be their spawn point and decide to move up further...
So I move ahead of that area about 50 feet to the NEXT bank that they had moved to...
Start shooting again... NOTHING
So I throw a nade right between three of them.. it goes off... NOTHING.

I'm sorry but on maps where the spawns move up, the protection should NOT be like that. Protect from TK's, fine... but when we're trying to capture a point there's no reason we shouldn't be able to kill them in the 100 yard radius around their spawn. They were shooting at us yet we couldn't kill them. That's a little unfair and unbalances the game. Not to mention completely takes you out of the immersion.

Hopefully this gets addressed, because it was seriously annoying. What's the point of the huge maps if when you do take the time to get the jump on the enemy, instead of just rushing in and using little strategy, you get punished by fighting invincible enemies.

Yep, happened to me again today on Basovka (I think that's the new name for it. Old ponyride). I was defending the command bunker when the Germans captured it. Instantly the bloody thing's full of freshly spawned guys, all invincible. That is NOT fair. Not fair at all.

Spawn points feature Spawn Protecting, this is a Feature to prevent people from hosing down a Spawn Point with a Tank MG or simple being well not very nice people and shot people who just spawned.

Oh, btw. On the original topic, I've now seen the EXACT issue described by the OP and it isn't spawn protection. I had a German dive to prone on Baksan Valley today, on the river bed between the mill and that little hut with the jetty. The instant he hit the ground he became invincible. I was standing over him emptying my PPSH into his head at point blank from iron sites. He didn't take any damage, nor did he take any from my two rifleman teammates. He proceeded to gun all three of us down. There seems to be something going wrong with hit detection at certain times when people hit the dirt. Something that causes the hit cylinders to be... elsewhere.

I've had all of these happen to me. Spawns are protected, and I got behind the forward spawn on Baskova and I was sitting there trying to pop there germans in the trenches but no dice. ALSO i found a sniper prone once, and I tried stabbing him 6 times without him moving, all in different spots and I could not hit him at all. Hitbox issues methinks.

the problem is.. people shoul d be spawning in craters, trenches, bunkers, etc or somehting where they are unliekly to just pop up infront of you

I encountered that too. I shot a german twice with IS and I was close to him. He didnt die. I shot him with MN. There came blood and he didnt die. I shot him fucking twice.

And it was in MY area, and thus can not be explained by anti-spawn camping feauture.

I dont know wether this is a cheat or bug but it needs to be fixed ASAP!

dont have your problem, i remember being in basovka, they allies spawned at the command bunker, i was axis, behind the objective, wich was still AT gun, i didnt wanna get killed so i threw a nade in to get away without staying there to spawnkill ( i hate that ) and it worked, all ruskies went up in bits
