So wait wait. Let me get this straight. You think the Friends/Community system is bad because you lost your accounts because you gave away your account details willingly to someone you didn't know?A group idea sounds pretty good. But steam already has a buddy list and it is total crap. And steam does not take any crap nor do they have reason. I had one of my accounts hacked and lost my games for 6 months before I got it back. Then two months later my account was taken from me and closed cause the person who stole it had used my account to get other accounts by saying they where "automated support". $80 in steam games lost!! I dont know about you guys but steam gives no leave way.
Only add people you really know, but then again, my trust was taken advantage of by people who I considered to be good friends. Clans, Friends, Buddy lists bottom line your enemy is your friend and on you buddy list. Don't let what happened to me happen to you BEWARE MY FRIENDS
I like it, even though I didnt use buddy system, it makes perfect sense.
you know you can make and join groups in steam community right?

On top of that, you say you didn't get the account back the first time until six months later. Why didn't you try contacting Steam support immediately afterwards? And really, don't say that it was them that took six months to get the account back, I know people in the Steam support staff and they actually put an emphasis on the returning of stolen accounts above other, less serious support tickets.
problem is I believe you can only be a member of 3 xfire groups at any one time, I'm already in two, but i would certainly join an RO teamwork group or similar, perhaps Core or similar could invite some of us.
Uh ... by giving your information away to an "automated message", you freely gave away your information away to someone and something you should not have. Up at the top of every chat is the words "never tell your password to anyone" and you did not follow that. Even to a scammer posing as an "automated message." No message are ever automated on the Steam chat, ever.No I didn't give my info away willingly!! If you check around there is an automated message picture "wish I had it" that I had gotten. After my and many others account users posted about the automated message there were lots of forum comments about it. And yes I did contact steam about my account many many times. We well we all know people big deal. My tickets went unanswered. Lucky for me I was so dedicated to RO that I had both the download and the box.

Furthermore, xfire has many wonderful uses and mod teams are able to set up groups. check it out
It shouldn't. I don't believe I've ever been knocked out of game due to a notification. It just pops up as a little box in the lower right corner over the game UI.At least xfire doesnt knock you out of game unlike steam community when a events notification pops up.

You also have the option of disabling all notifications: File > Settings > Friends tab > uncheck all you don't want. You have control over everything.
