A group idea sounds pretty good. But steam already has a buddy list and it is total crap. And steam does not take any crap nor do they have reason. I had one of my accounts hacked and lost my games for 6 months before I got it back. Then two months later my account was taken from me and closed cause the person who stole it had used my account to get other accounts by saying they where "automated support". $80 in steam games lost!! I dont know about you guys but steam gives no leave way.
Only add people you really know, but then again, my trust was taken advantage of by people who I considered to be good friends. Clans, Friends, Buddy lists bottom line your enemy is your friend and on you buddy list. Don't let what happened to me happen to you BEWARE MY FRIENDS

Well better yet, Xfire you are able to set up groups. Everyone one uses Xfire and it would be easier and not involve steam. I am already in a few groups on Xfire. Mod teams or clans should set them up and post in recruiting section for people who want to be apart of those groups. PUT IT IN STICKY??

problem is I believe you can only be a member of 3 xfire groups at any one time, I'm already in two, but i would certainly join an RO teamwork group or similar, perhaps Core or similar could invite some of us.

So wait wait. Let me get this straight. You think the Friends/Community system is bad because you lost your accounts because you gave away your account details willingly to someone you didn't know?

On top of that, you say you didn't get the account back the first time until six months later. Why didn't you try contacting Steam support immediately afterwards? And really, don't say that it was them that took six months to get the account back, I know people in the Steam support staff and they actually put an emphasis on the returning of stolen accounts above other, less serious support tickets.

you know you can make and join groups in steam community right?

Yes you can join and make groups in the steam community, which plays a role in core working of the suggestion of this idea. So i seriously don't know what you're trying to say. Did you read the actual suggestion before posting :X?

No I didn't give my info away willingly!! If you check around there is an automated message picture "wish I had it" that I had gotten. After my and many others account users posted about the automated message there were lots of forum comments about it. And yes I did contact steam about my account many many times. We well we all know people big deal. My tickets went unanswered. Lucky for me I was so dedicated to RO that I had both the download and the box.

Furthermore, xfire has many wonderful uses and mod teams are able to set up groups. check it out

Uh ... by giving your information away to an "automated message", you freely gave away your information away to someone and something you should not have. Up at the top of every chat is the words "never tell your password to anyone" and you did not follow that. Even to a scammer posing as an "automated message." No message are ever automated on the Steam chat, ever.

There are reports of "automated messages" being sent to people on a daily basis. Each one being a physical human sitting behind a computer scamming someone by posing as a legitimate support message, when they are not.

As for the tickets, you submit one and only one. Every time you submit another, you're placed at the end of the line and the wait begins anew. If you did not receive a confirmation code in your email, you either A) Did not fully finish submitting the ticket or B) Your email spam filter flagged those mails as spam.

Also, please stop double posting. Thanks.

At least xfire doesnt knock you out of game unlike steam community when a events notification pops up.

It shouldn't. I don't believe I've ever been knocked out of game due to a notification. It just pops up as a little box in the lower right corner over the game UI.

You also have the option of disabling all notifications: File > Settings > Friends tab > uncheck all you don't want. You have control over everything.

If you disable the steam overlay totally but haven't disabled the notifications, then whenever you get a message or whatever you get "alt tabbed" out of the game.

btw:

The buddy-list is gone, but Im already getting used to just browsing through the servers to see if I find anybody interesting online. What still annoys me though is the fact that what remains of the server browser is broken like hell. Some problems I have with it:

1) After each refresh, it resets your sort key. I usually sort the servers by player count (to be able to avoid everything above 32 :p ), I have to re-sort them every time I refresh....

2) The filters arent working properly. I got loads of empty servers coming up (in fact, sometimes more empty servers than filled ones....) although I set the server browser to filter out empty ones....

3) After each and every refresh, the server count differs. Not by one or two (which could be explained by map-switches on the missing servers), but by tens....13 servers now, next refresh its 31......

4) Player numbers are not shown correctly. In fact, around half the servers in the list are shown with 1-4 people on. When I click on them, it immediately changes to 0....which is kind of related to 2), coz empty servers should not come up anyway....even less so when it
=> 4) is by far the most annoying one. You refresh, ahhh, 25 servers to choose from. Then you have to realize that more than half of these servers are shown with a handful of people on but in fact are empty....:(
