In RO1, you needed to hit the RMB before firing the MG from the hip. I figured this simulated getting into a firing stance. This also required you to stand pretty stationary.

In RO2, a lot of people (me included) feel the hip fired MG is too easy to handle recoil wise, and too effective as a room clearing weapon. This is due to the lack of inertia when whipping the gun around, and the ability to fire instantly and on the move (circle strafe an MG, really?).

I think bringing back the requirement to hit the RMB to "steady yourself" before firing the MG should be brought back from RO1. If this is seen as too clunky, have an automatic delay while doing a similar animation put in once the trigger is pulled (like deploying automatically when going prone).

I honestly think this is the first change that should be made to MGs. Once made it may well end up being the only change needed.

EDIT: I'm definitely a fan of 'right click to hip-deploy' rather than a delay on firing. A firing delay would mean an MG just can't function in CQB when it's expected, when by all rights they should usually dominate that scene.

Of course, I also feel that with enforcing the hip-shooting deploy, the recoil may need to be tweaked to make it a little more controllable from that stance, but that would have to be seen after the stance change was played a bit.

In addition, this also simulates the fact that the average machine gunner, when jogging with his weapon, is not INSTANTLY prepared to unleash a close-quarters barrage of fire from the hip. If you're carrying the weapon up two flights of stairs to put it in a window, holding it in a firing position is uncomfortable, unwieldy, and cumbersome--you're more likely to have it clutched to your chest or resting on your shoulder. The firing position should not be the default position, but rather something that is used when special circumstances demand.

Leaving the specifics of the mechanic up for debate, I'd support almost anything that puts a lid on the current RnG MG silliness.

I pretty much only play MG class and I'd be happy with these changes to non-deployed fire. At the moment it's just a bit too easy, especially with MG-34.

However, the deployment problems with MG also need to be fixed (stuff like the top floors in Grain Elevator, where there are only a few windows where an MG can be deployed - even though they are all the same, so if you can deploy in one you should be able to deploy in all). I'd also like to see the ability to keep the bipod legs in place while shuffling the body around to aim, so you don't suddenly get your sights snapping off-target the way it currently happens.

The sewers of Leningrad.
These are one of those rare occasions that you can create "balance" without dampering historical and physical accuracy that much. This would make the game much better by making MGers slow down and actually make choke points.

As long as the balance-to-hip time isn't half a second this will greatly improve gameplay.

I agree completely. At the moment it is just annoying and it feels like another Cod World at War.

The mg'er is fine the way he is. I do a lot of rambo and I succeed as well as I do since i catch them from behind. When head to head I dont own all the time. Pistols can kill me and smg's do a good job. I am pretty much dead if the first shots dont kill them.

The bugs of deployment are more of a negative than being able to rambo. Everyone knows the maps so mg'ers can be easy targets if u r setup for more than a few then u will be killed by a vindictive respawn. Also when u are crawling sometimes u randomly get up. Also some places you are unable to deploy like on a pile of rubble. Also some places u deploy u have a very limited arc of fire.

If the mg'er was really over powered, then a lot more people would be playing it.
