Might be the players after all.

Just played a match in Campaign mode, with Germans attacking. They won.


Axis stacking at its finest.

We all need to do our bit to make sure the new guys don't get steamrolled.

Just played a round on 2FJ server. We snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as the Russians. Took our squad leaders some time to figure out where to smoke as we moved up the woodlands (and it got close there) and then we surged ahead.

I dunno man, I've seen the swings too. Coldsteel B1 and the early versions was tough for Germans and actually quite balanced.

In recent times, the MCP version, I have yet to see a defensive victory. Perhaps with time. Not dissing the map-its my favourite official map. I can't put my finger on what it is.

The Russians rarely run out of reinforcements- they just get capped out. I was on a Russian server yesterday, and I swear, all of the Russian clan members (PB clan, 291 clan, etc) were on the Soviet team. These are hardcore and experienced players-none of them are below level 90. We got close, but yet, we lost.

There's just something about the MCP version. I can't put my finger on it. Perhaps with time.

Randy, you are right...... there is something... the maps just ain't got the oomph any longer.

According to some, its TWI meddling in the mapper's designs and concept.

There are three maps I and our regulars will tell you have apparently been made mediocre by the meddling.

  • Bridges of Druzhina
  • Cold Steel
  • Winterwald
The earlier versions of the above maps were all more challenging and much better gameplay wise... now, they seem to be "mellow".


We've already reverted our Druzhina to an earlier, better version.

Drecks, the challenges for the Germans.... seem to have all but disappeared. They seemingly have been mellowed. (that's a nice way of putting it.)

Coldsteel used to kick-***, a superb challenging map. Now it too, is mediocre.

It's true. I used to love how hard you had to play as a German to win on cold steel. You really had to coordinate with your team.

The thing is, I'm not even sure what TWI changed when they released these maps. I've played them all ad inifinitum but I still can't pinpoint what it is yet...

I released a version before and after RS was released. It had the changes added mentioned in the contest feedback. These changes where.

- More cover approaching A
- More cover inbetween obj A and B
- No recap on B (not sure if I added that earlier)

Except from adding some cover for the Russians in the last objective and adding some textures
to the area a player only see in specmode I did not change anything in the version
I send them to release in the MCP pack.

Probably these versions of the map did not get that much playtime and it did not show.
Funny I need to check that myself, but I'm very busy lately.:eek:

I just played the map 2 more times, trying to win as Russians.

It was on a Russian server, so not much team-stacking on the German side there. We had a lot of experienced guys in the team, so that wasn't the problem either.

First time we didn't manage to get past A and B.
Second time we did, and after those points the map starts to get fun. However, halfway through the map, we ran out of reinforcements. 15min left on the clock, and out of reinforcements... what a load of crap.

This is unfortunately the furthest I've come in this map, so I can't judge the rest of the map yet... I don't think many people can.

Something needs to change ASAP, it's completely unbalanced. I won't play it anymore, and I'm sure it will turn off a lot of other players.

In the meantime, please take the map back offline until it's fixed!

I have seen all possible types of victories/defeats on that map, on either team. I've seen the Germans hold A & B (ex C & D), I've seen the Russians steamroll the entire map in under 20 minutes, and I've seen both teams stalemate and run out of reinforcements somewhere in the middle. I don't think the map is unbalanced at all. If EITHER team loses, it's simply because the enemy team was better. That's pretty much it. I've seen absolutely herculean efforts put in by teams on BOTH sides with excellent players and superb teamwork/communication, and still lose, just because the other team was just that little bit better.

The original ColdSteel had "spawn on SL" OFF all the time. THAT, ladys and gentleman ,is the great difference.

I'm not saying it's a bad map, but it's so unbalanced that it's absolutely unplayable for me and a lot of players. I know a few small tweaks will indeed fix the map, but untill that time: unplayable.

Worst of ideas, since no new data and statistics would come in which help to "fix" and tweak the map a bit.

We didn't sign up and pay to play beta maps. The map has been in beta and approved, and changed by TWI later... making it beta again. I don't mind people putting this map on their server, but I don't want a "test" map in official rotation.

The data you're looking for is supposed to come from a test audience, who want to do this and are interested in testing the maps... not everyone.

odd...all custom maps are in "test" stage. So you leave when a custom map comes on that is not official ?

See...balance changes over times. Thats perfectly normal. Remember when they made reeinfs on all maps the same to tweak that later on ? That is testing.

But regardless, id like to see some official stance on the "last minute changes" on bridges.

Yes, and I think most people do. When I have time to play, I want to play a map that's 100% finished.

I only see the usual naggers complain HERE. The map never emptied a server in the last days so dunno where you get that from. Id say give it time.

I have never played this map without having at least 10 guys from the Russian side complaining about balance.

Perhaps you don't see it from German side if they talk in teamchat. ;)
