Blame the Russians for poor color film then:

There it is, first one. I didn't do any recoloring, simply an altered blend and an opacity adjust.

If you like the official art, then like it. But the majority prefer a darker approach.
Thanks for the link, and agreed - the official cover art is terrible. The darker one is perfection. One of the best box arts I've ever seen, EVER. If another game that I don't know of uses that art, I'm sure to look at the back and then Google the game.

I don't understand the complaining...art is art, why would you want a poorly recolored photograph barely visible on a boring black box. I like the official box more than anything.

They feel that because Tripwire gave the community such a big rope and took in so many suggestion and really let the community involve itself into making this game as indepth as it is that they are now pulling on that rope as if they would have to listen to the community and that their input is ALL that matters.

That is very, very well made box art mate.

The red color makes the box and game stand out from other games. I love the way you have used 2 sides of the conflict, with the Germans in house to house fighting and the Russians in an open battlefield area. This is important as it shows the battlefield locations ingame are realistic.

You have as well put vehicles witch is good because that is one of the strong sides to the game.

These Two aspects tells the buyer no matter if he/she is new too FPS or professional player that this game is realistic in its content and what the game has in store for them once they go inside and try it out.

The reddish color shows of a Russian feel to the game witch the developers have stated that its one of the main strong points of the game with out using any political symbolic markings.

The text stands out as well witch is important in a product going on the shelves it makes a name for it self, the text tell the buyer that its an WWII WARFARE SIMULATION would attract any hardcore and new person.

If I was the development team I would have picked your box art.

Nice one Felix! Simple yet so effective. Would really stand out in the shops. I really like how you shaped the type, it allows for a really elegant and mature look. Looks much more fitting to RO then the "brushy" looking text on top of the page. I wish they still would be using the "R in O" logo, because it has become so recognizable for RO and mod gamers.

The problem with using photographs as seen in some of the designs is that they have already been mass produced in various books and transmitted all over the world via the internet. From my perspective, this cheapens the box art tremendously. On the other hand, using an original illustration is far more authentic and original depending on the quality.
You could redraw a photograph yourself. Or dress up in WWII uniforms and pose for the box art (then later Photoshop to make it look like you're in a combat zone or something)

the problem that I see with the one now is it looks low budget, that coupled with the price might turn people off. Usually one gets an impression of a game by the box cover since it is the box cover that tries to make the game stand out. Think about how many hand drawn box covers for WW2 games are out there.

Felix's cover is by far my favorite and as a fan I want the game to be presented to the unwashed masses with the kind of less-is-more aproach but still have it rich with content and meaning (whether intended or not, no offense :p ).

I don't hate the official design but it does remind me of an RTS and it looks "bargain bin". The hip-shooting German though, I hate to say reminds me of Red Orchestra (because of the way the bots just kind of slowly walk around with the gun either in one hand and pointed at the ground, or at the hip at all times).

Not only that but it doesnt tell you much about the game. I mean one can deduce that its about the second world war and that its about the Russians and Germans fighting each other. Other than that it really doesnt tell much. Felix's is nice because its simple and tell you alot; it tells you its about the 2nd world war, tells you its about germans vs russians, tells you its a sim, lets you deduce it must be about infantry. Maybe if the russian picture was that of a tank battle it would reveal it also has tanks.

The photos in Felix's are particuarliy well chosen as well due to the German MG team and 2 men working together (RO's emphasis on teamwork), Germans and Russians being fairly represented (despite the actions of their politicians the soldiers were just people like you and me) mix of locations like Ro (urban/fields) and a tank (because you can drive tanks in RO!)

Just as said increase the contrast so the men/black lines stand out a bit more and that would get my vote

Now that is ****cking brilliant, I could just imagine that on the shelf with the lettering and ensignia embossed against the stark red background. Then you'd pick it up and the cover would open to an inner cover showing off the game and touting it's features all in the same motif.

Two thumbs and two big toes up.

I would like the official one better if the muzzle flashes looked right (FFS, it just looks weird, doesn't the artist know about muzzle brakes?) and the soldier had his MP40 shouldered. It makes me think of Wolfenstein more than RO.
