I'm feeling a little ambitious right now (read: all my "pure code" related modding has bogged down due to my own incompetence and a lack of reference sources), so I figured I'd try my hand at making a brand new vehicle. For the sake of simplicity, it would have to be something relatively simple, with a model that already exists in game, prefereably not needing animations since I have no idea how to do that.
The answer: Hoverplank. You know, a plank of wood... that hovers. You can stand on it, then hover around. Possibly surfing style, probably not.
That being said, I've hit my first snag: I have no idea what I'm doing. None. Zip, zilch, nada. I mean, I'm sure I can hack some kind of vehicle together via mimicing the existing vehicle code, but the "animation" side of things is a mystery to me.
First things first: A code related question. When you get inside of a tank, does it pose your character model in the positions you see, or does it de-spawn your character model and use a model sitting in the tank?
Second thing: How does one go about placing bones in things? My understanding is that I'll need at least one bone to attach the "driver" of the hoverplank to the plank. I assume this will be relatively simple, since I'm sure a plank of wood already exists and I can probably just place one in the center of the plank.
Third, minor thing: Is there a way to pose the character while he rides the hoverplank? A nice "surfs up!" pose would be cool, but I have no real clue how to do it. I'm not even going to attempt interesting things like having the character lean when they turn the plank or anything.
I guess that's enough rambling for now. No sense in going into minute details before the board even exists and has a rider. Any help will be appreciated.
