So, after constantly reading on how RO1 was better in pretty much every aspect I went back after 100 hours of RO2.
I suggest you do the same before proceeding to read the rest of my post.
It is ugly, it sounds bad, it handles bad and plays terribly. Now keep reading before you hit downvote.
Everyone is slow and clumsy. This is one of the best things about RO2. You're as fast and agile as a human being is. Only thing that I can think of adding maybe quick dive from cover to cover, maybe this could be intergrated into the cover system?
It's ugly. It really is, I know it's an old game, but I don't get why some people claim RO2 is ugly. It isn't, it looks like a modern game without all the wish-wash effects on your screen.
It sounds bad. I killed 11 guys with Mosin and each shot sounded like a crack of thunder, like the sounds were either made in hollywood or recorded in massive concrete hall with bad equipment. Also, everyone is quiet as a robot. I could only hear cracks of thunder everywhere and then the same guy screaming as he died over and over again. Except if was a bunch of different guys, but it's all voice-acted by one person.
Gameplay was worse than in RO2. Why? Because it didn't feel like actual battle, it felt like turtle wars with snipers. Everything is small, you cannot see as far as you can see in real life, everyone is slow. Like said earlier, I killed 11 guys before I quit. Every one of them was shot with a rifle from less than 50 meters and every one of those shots required me to crouch over and press my nose against the 22" screen. 50 meters is a distance where you could kill people with a pistol. I shouldn't have to squint my eyes and have a nerd-like crouch when shooting a rifle at those distances.
Let's not even begin talking about the tanks. Only thing RO1 had better is the lack of aimbotting AI hullgunner. AI-hullgunner is ok, just get rid of the aimbot.
RO2 might not be perfect but it's WAY CLOSER to perfect than RO1. Seriously. Go play Ro1 and see yourself.
