Get in the damn capzone, no matter what your age is.

Toddlers, grandparents in a wheelchair, mummies, anyone - we really need EVERYONE in the capzone, as soon as possible.

Then, once half the team understand that, we can talk about skills, about doing the right thing, about knowing everything about the game, about pressing the right key, about not being childish.

...

Nah, really.

I was deeply saddened when a young player, who followed me as I was leapfrogging to the next capzone, who dived when I dived (good learner ;) ), taking much more risk than he "should" have taken (according to his knowledge of the game), was caught by a MG gunfire, 2 meters behind me.

That player knew almost nothing about RO2, yet he made an enormous effort into getting into the game. When he wasn't dying "stupidly" to a viciously entrenched enemy, he was greatly helping us capture the point. And that's priceless.

...

Then there's that high-level player, who unlocked most weapons, have 200 hours in the game, camping 30 meters from our spawn. Sure he knows how to land the arty really close to the enemy spawn (note to TWI: arty on spawn is still not fixed...), where are the one-hit-kill spots on both tanks, where the capzone starts and ends (and the ninja-capture small corners).

But he's not making any effort, he's not helping his team.

=> The will to help your team is much more important than actual knowledge of the game. You can learn tips and tricks, but you can't learn to be a teammate.

...

And regarding age only (and not age+experience of the game), I have seen many 13-14 years old Commanders leading their team to victory through excellent management and carefully timed orders, again it's purely about willingness: to help your team, to learn.

Also, when you're telling a 13 years old Commander "hm, you should put your arty on the side of the house at C5, right in front of the D capzone", most the time they listen because they are willing to learn.

Same with requesting Smoke grenades on the enemy position, some of them even go as far as dropping them (or giving you that role for a life or two) for you, so you can show them what you were trying to tell.

Being 15 now, I'm just going to wait a couple of years before I use voice chat. Just to avoid any potential disputes.

stfu underage b8!

lol just kidding. I'm not gonna lie though RO community can be pretty rutheless to the newer players. I usually go out of my way to help out the new players, but most veterans are pretty rude.

Here is an example of what happened during the free weekend

player 1: wow this game is pretty hard, im having a tough time getting kills

player 2: its not about the kills its about playing the objective noob

player 3: maybe you should go back to cod

player 2: seriously all these f***ing noobs here dont know what their doing

player 2: OMG! destroy the tank you retard! You have an AT gun! Dont pick roles you dont know how to play!

this is why niche game hard time expanding their audience; because of elitist pr*cks like these...

A few players dont make the community. When that happens on the server those are maybe 2 players from 32-64 players. That does not make it better but you should not overdramatize it.

I noticed that some of the "Vets" are rather sensitive towards failure or mistakes other players make.

I'm not what you could call a Veteran of RO:HOS but not a "noob" either with 90+ hours of playing. But still I make mistakes like many others do as well, I would say.
Just yesterday one of my grenades hit a doorframe by accident and bounced back. I had simply miscalculated the trajectory. In the event some teammates and myself were hurt. No one killed, mind you! But even before I could type "sry" someone had to call me an idiot over voice chat. And that was not just blurting it out, it was more deliberate since you have to "push-to-talk".

I'm not complaining, merely saying that "seasoned" players get their share of "love" from the vets as well :p (provided that guy was one)

Enough with the rant, have a nice day and see you on the battlefield!

Cheers!

I'd just like to point out that those people being dickheads over chat aren't really "elite" in any meaningful sense. There's a difference between being elite (which is a good thing) and being a ****wit (for which there is never any requirement).

I may come off as blunt to younger players, the reason is this:

At the moment the game is unplayable on some servers due to griefers who are mostly pre-pubescent... it's quite sad.

Epic sax guy 10 hours - YouTube I'm mature guys, right? Right? RIGHT? But seriously, those griefers, gah! In my opinion, as long as you act at a respectable level of maturity (not that high) people won't complain about your age. Works for me! :D

Where did you get this idea? Griefers come in all size and ages.

I don't mind underage people playing, but I do mind kids under 12 years of age. This game is not really appropriate for them, and they do ruin immersion with their squeeky voices

Also, they tend to TK and grief quite a lot while singing "trololololololol"

I have no problem with younger players what so ever, as long as they abide the server rules they are A OK with me and more than welcome.

However if you have a squeeky voice and you know it, try not to get a laughing fit, I've experienced a what seemed to be a 12 year old having one once whilst playing RO:Ost, and I almost couldn't straigthen out my toes afterward :D

well i guess i should start by saying that i'm 16. i love this game (even more after the patch :D) and that i'm tired of being disrespected in game just because i'm young. my most recent experience was letting a tank commander know exactly where the enemy tank was over voice chat when suddenly a couple of older guys starting yelling at me "go back to cod kid we don't want you here." i know younger kids tend to act up a bit but all i'm saying is if i'm not disrespecting you why should you disrespect me just because of my age?

They just sound like a couple of older 'kids'. Seriously you get people like that even in their 30's.

Decent people will respect you no matter how old you are. Try not to take any notice and carry on as you would.

My advise would be try to stick to the same few servers and get to know the players, if there a good bunch you will be accepted and obnoxious people will not be tolerated.

Our clan fullmj are a respectful bunch, we are UK based though.

I may remind you, the game is rated M for mature
Maturity is such a relative thing. I was much more mature at 13 than most 25 year olds today. I had two jobs, went to school. Had to walk barefoot to both (uphill both ways, in the rain, pack my own lunch, and do chores when I got home).

In fact, I think they should keep the 17-21 somethings from playing....You know, the age that knows everything about anything. The age that thinks respect has to be earned before its given. Still so young and so naive about how the world really goes around.

Ok this is the way I see it their is "for me" three types of respect I give in this game.

1.Basic-Respecting someone as a person Age,Sex,Race,Creed and even skill level has nothing to do with it here. Its just being a decent person we are all gamers here and giving everyone the chance to reach 2 and 3.

2.Gamer-Respecting someone as a gamer and their skill and knowledge within the game. Also they way a person treats other people especially the new players.

3.Friend-Respecting someone as a friend someone you can talk to and have known and respected for a while.

The problem is with some of these so called "Elitist" a$$ hats is they ignore number one.Only seeing people for how well they do in game and treating new players very badly. This is more of a personality problem then being a vet. Some people just cannot respect anything and should NEVER get respect in turn.

Its human nature their will always be a$$ hats in games and Ro is no different. It just seems our community has fewer of these type players than most games.
Another problem is these non respectful people tend to be more outspoken. While many of the respectful vets will tend to be quieter and less outspoken. So its the a$$hats that will stand out more giving the other vets a bad name.

Common guys don't be a \/

the main reasons the older gamers get fed up with younger gamers is because they come straight from BF3 or COD. reaslise its much harder to get kills and easier to get killed (no 360 no-scope kills etc) complain about it. then get a ppsh or mp40. wait by their own teams spawn point and when 12 of us respawn, mows us down. or when your in a good sniping position walks up behind you and headshots you with a pistol. its happened plenty of time by me. Its why younger gamers get a bad reptation in RO2. for me. i dont care whos behind the grimy soldier next to me, provided hes not shooting me (unless hes the enemy ;) )

I've seen an almost simulare case last Saturday. Some younger person (by the sound of his voice) did use voip to point out the location of an enemy sniper. But by mistake he used public voip instead of team voip. The first reply that he got was something like "If you're to stupid to use the right key, then either shut-up or go play cod. Damn kids".

Now who was the kid and who the grown-up?

That is an outrage.... to hammer the player "just because of his age" is pure insanity. That is exactly what I've seen and quickly corrected.
