My son went through the same thing in MoH and CoD(he's now 22). He was more mature than most playing.
Dad? Is that you?
Haha. But in all seriousness, you could be my father. I started playing MoHAA in 2004 when I was 14, I went through CoD/BF and now I'm 22 and playing RO2. All of my gamimg "formative years" revolved around run and gun shooters (though modified in the essence of "Tactical Realism") which I played with my American friends on their servers. As a kid learning to play with a bolt action rifle and a 250 ping, it was an experience that taught me to play smarter and get faster. Suffice to say, and without wanting to sound conceited, I'm fairly decent at both RO2 and BF3 these days.
Back on topic. At least this community is
generally welcoming toward newer players. I read the hackusation thread just before, and the community response to hackers over here is miles away from what it is in the CoD/BF "communities" as well.
I know what its like to be a kid playing video games with adults. Subsequently, I tend to give more respect/leeway to the younger guys who play and try their best to learn, attack, and work with the team. Everyone has a tendency to be annoying. Most times the "kids" don't even mean to be. Its exciting, its new, its a whole lotta fun, and they get carried away with it. Who can blame them for that? To save all you crusty old bastards the trobule, I've taken to encouraging any newer players to follow me. I do my best to give them tips that helped me out when I was a n00b. And you were all n00bs once. Don't you ever forget that.
On the flip side, I don't care for all the "Vets" on this forum, or on the servers. Your actions speak louder than your words. I'm not going to respect you simply because you've been here since 2005 or whatever. I played a lot of RO1 as well. If you truly are a Vet, do what every Vet does -- teach the new guys how to stay alive. Don't whinge and moan when they do something wrong, politely correct them and show them the right way. Anyway, for the most part its actually the "CoD kids" who top the scoreboard (with kills and team points) and who enjoy looking into the whites of the enemy's eyes while they actually move forward and play the objectives. Despite what I said about the attitude of this community earlier, there
is a very elitist undertone that circulates throughout the forums and in most servers.
Let it go. Don't take yourselves so seriously. Its a game. You're here to have a good time, and so are they.
