well it's usually quite hard to differentiate between 16-20 years old's , i say wait for a year and you'll be all set to go for RO2 :D

Because of your age.

Yeah, and why play the game when you can get all the grief you want about your age here on the forums?

Its a shame you was treated this way just because of your age.My sons 16 and I also know its not always about age its about maturity.I have seen 40 year old guys act 10 and 10 year olds act 40.

When I play I could care less about someones age as long as their playing the game and making an attempt to help the team. Its all we can really ask for do not let a few jerks keep you from playing the game.
I think what pisses off those that don't have kids is that the reflexes of the younger ones are far superior to theirs and they're just envious. My son went through the same thing in MoH and CoD(he's now 22). He was more mature than most playing.

I know where you're coming from,Grayfox. I have a very deep Southern drawl and quite often some of the really "classy" players like to make fun of it. Their mothers would be so proud ....Just join our server. If you're making the effort to play the game as it was intended and someone disses you because of your voice, we'll either mute them or remove them.

Agree them young reflexes really shine in fps's while us older guys have to use smart tactics to make up for them .Many times you have to have kids to understand them.

Lol I get the same thing I can't hide my southern accent(nor do I want too) and is why I'm kinda quite on pubs.I find its the young adults that's worse than the kids about making fun of people.

You don't earn respect, you buy it. Start buying a few games and gifting them to people you play with regularly on Steam - in time they will accept you, and perhaps even like you.

This must be some obscure inside joke, I guess. I wonder what it is about.

I think the southern accent is great, full of character. Dont let those damn yankees put you down!:D
Funny enough, that sparks a memory of a round i played on US server in ROOST many years back and they hounded me off the server by taking the piss of my english accent over voip, so you're not alone.

Some of these troll replies to your post are probably the same assholes who gave you a hard time.

Anyway, it can be frustrating, but just put them on ignore and keep talking when needed. This is the internet, dbags in wheel chairs will feel like king of mountain talking **** to people over a voice chat.

Just keep using teamwork via mic and muting the crazies :D

I mute several players a game either because of their mumbling quiet voice, speaking Russian or French with a friend, or because they're the dbags who give people a hard time. It works soooo well, minus taking my 10 secs to open the menu and do it :p

I don't care if you're a 6 year old girl or a 90 year old man, when you use VOIP to help mark targets and try to play with the team instead of loning it, you're doing better than 80% of everyone else.

I've seen a lot of old people (or at least claiming that they are) who behaved like kids. I've seen kids behaving like a matured human beings. Age is nothing, because what's the most important is what you do, how you do and what intent you have in mind. If someone harras another player, because of his age then it's these people who should be kicked from the server for acting like a bunch of bullies.

agree^^

@ GreyFox1840:I heard the so called older player(s) act like undiginfied buffoon's with the VOIP,
Pay them no mind. Just go mute them. That function works great.
Enjoy the game,,,;)

I was playing on one of the [40/1] Classic servers about 2 days ago on Grain Elevator, and the only slots left open were a Marksman and rifleman, and having not tried marksman in Classic mode before I decided to take it. I was using the scoped G41 and doing fairly well taking out Mgs and the enemy marksmen and so forth, but one these so called "RO1 vets" out of the blue (about half way through the round) started to tk me in spawn, when I asked why he merely said (I'm paraphrasing here) "you dumbass, that weapon is for noobs, use the Kar98 scoped" and "I'm only helping you noobs learn, just a lil tough love" After I respectfully told him that I personally liked the weapon better, and it clearly wasn't negatively affecting my peformance he just continued on a long rant about new players being thrash (even though I've played Ro:Ost Font and Ro2 since release) and how they were ruining the game and how everything was so much better in Ro1's glory days. Suffice it to say he tkd and teamwounded me and other people (many of whom were newer players, so I couldn't imagine they would want to play Classic mode if this is their first experience) he thought that weren't playing by his standards until he was kicked. On a side note this guy (who I won't name) was an active and vocal member of these forums, at least early on in RO2 and whom I've seen playing in Ro1 before. I know that on the whole the vets are generally welcoming and understanding, but its people like this that give the RO community an "elitist" image and ruin the experience for potential new players

As long as people behave and try to achieve their objectives I don't see a reason to disrespect anyone.

But people who refuse to listen to advice given in a friendly manner and just sit at the back camping with an important class gets an earful regardless of age.

There should be no discussion about this toppic. You should respect any player. Some say respect needs to be earned but this is wrong. There should be a basic respect for any player in the game.

Please name and shame, it's the only way these jackasses will understand is when other players get to know them and wont give them the time of day.

Look up...see the lens glint?
I have seen 40 year old guys act 10 and 10 year olds act 40.

I have to agree with Gunther here...

@OP:
Don't let the idiots get to you. Those kind are insecure by nature and attempt to bolster their egos by mouthing off to younger players. Especially ones that display more maturity at half their age.

They are just trying to get a extreme reaction from you. If you ignore them and just crack on...trust me, it drives such types absolutely crazy.

Just ignore them like everybody here says. I played RO:OST and RO2 since launch and I still get gruff from other players who did the same and even new players but I learned to just keep on playing. Just keep on asking for help if you need it and just play as a team to win even if others try to ruin it.

i've always found that we have less of a problem with so-called "cod kiddies" and more of a problem with a small number of ueber arrogant, so called "mature" players who tend to see realism shooters as their natural home. Self-styled vets who think it is ok to have a go at people over voip because they assume they are better.

My son went through the same thing in MoH and CoD(he's now 22). He was more mature than most playing.

Dad? Is that you?

Haha. But in all seriousness, you could be my father. I started playing MoHAA in 2004 when I was 14, I went through CoD/BF and now I'm 22 and playing RO2. All of my gamimg "formative years" revolved around run and gun shooters (though modified in the essence of "Tactical Realism") which I played with my American friends on their servers. As a kid learning to play with a bolt action rifle and a 250 ping, it was an experience that taught me to play smarter and get faster. Suffice to say, and without wanting to sound conceited, I'm fairly decent at both RO2 and BF3 these days.

Back on topic. At least this community is generally welcoming toward newer players. I read the hackusation thread just before, and the community response to hackers over here is miles away from what it is in the CoD/BF "communities" as well.

I know what its like to be a kid playing video games with adults. Subsequently, I tend to give more respect/leeway to the younger guys who play and try their best to learn, attack, and work with the team. Everyone has a tendency to be annoying. Most times the "kids" don't even mean to be. Its exciting, its new, its a whole lotta fun, and they get carried away with it. Who can blame them for that? To save all you crusty old bastards the trobule, I've taken to encouraging any newer players to follow me. I do my best to give them tips that helped me out when I was a n00b. And you were all n00bs once. Don't you ever forget that.

On the flip side, I don't care for all the "Vets" on this forum, or on the servers. Your actions speak louder than your words. I'm not going to respect you simply because you've been here since 2005 or whatever. I played a lot of RO1 as well. If you truly are a Vet, do what every Vet does -- teach the new guys how to stay alive. Don't whinge and moan when they do something wrong, politely correct them and show them the right way. Anyway, for the most part its actually the "CoD kids" who top the scoreboard (with kills and team points) and who enjoy looking into the whites of the enemy's eyes while they actually move forward and play the objectives. Despite what I said about the attitude of this community earlier, there is a very elitist undertone that circulates throughout the forums and in most servers.

Let it go. Don't take yourselves so seriously. Its a game. You're here to have a good time, and so are they.
