Greetings,

When you get to the point of having a bayonet on your weapon make it optional whether or not to equip it, i for one find hand to hand combat quite distasteful and would spray automatic gunfire instead of stabbing my assailant, either that or use a pistol :)

with regards

edit: i have found a nice poll regarding the subject,

The proud Soviet soldier of the Red Army must always have his bayonet fixed and ready to destroy the Fascist and Hitlerite invaders! Why would you want to do otherwise?

Seriously it was Soviet doctrine at the time to always have your bayonet fixed to your rifle. Hell, the MN91/30 was sited with the bayonet attached.

Because moving around a cramped building with a bayonet can be as much a hinderance as it is a useful item in close combat.

Although Ro2 strangely lacks a proper weapon collision model, which I find strange seen as a large portion of combat is within buildings.

Oh well.

A lot of people have requested the option to remove the bayonet citing the fact you could do it in RO1. I think it's a nice option to be able to remove and mount your bayonet on the fly in the battlefield. Adds to the immersion. There's also the argument that a fixed bayonet decreases accuracy which then leads to more arguments.

In my opinion TWI should add this feature, but I doubt they will. I mean...they'll have to add a whole new animation which at this stage in the game (excuse the pun) is probably too much work.

I was mostly being facetious, but yes, I agree. The ability to remove and mount your bayonet in game would be great, though in ROOST I pretty much automatically attached mine as soon as I spawned.

^^^ What he said, the 91/30 shoots better with bayonet, by design, if anything unlocking bayonet on it should give you accuracy boost :p

More importantly, the bayonet sticks out of windows, around corners, over cover, etc... when you have it attached, which can give your position away at times. If I'm firing through a window, I'd appreciate being able to detach it for the time being.

You shouldnt be standing in the window anyways, you always want to stand at least a meter behind it. This way you're hidden by shadows ;)

I voiced the concern because I often play as a Russian. That MN 91/30 is pretty long, and sometimes you simply have to poke the muzzle out of the window to get a clear shot at the MG tearing up your team. US Army Field manuals and urban combat techniques be darned.

On the flip side, it's always fun to stab jerry in the face when he pops his head up at the window. :D

I think it should be on by default, because it's not really a hinderence unless you intend to be firing out windows for a long time, but detachable. No rush for me though

On a real MN91/30 you have to adjust your iron sights, if you prefer to shoot without Bajonett.

I have one, i tell the troth ;)

Yeah, bayonets are (maybe) fun. Too bad, that single players can't enjoy it. Nor drum mag.. Nor silencer... :(
