IF BF3 has taken a big step back from the running and gunning of BC2, I'll be happy. I prefer entrenched infantry battles and nothing pisses me off more in BC2 than fighting from a position and getting flanked EVERY TIME in less than 2 minutes, while you have 3+ squad mates all around you.

Guys, BattleRecorder was just announced by one of the DICE members on accident. Looks like we can make some more machinima.

Some people think 3D spotting = teamwork. Those are dark times indeed for non ADHD kids and casual dudebros. =(
I've yet to meet one person that likes 3D spotting. Just look at the forums, everyone hates it.

The gameplay looks barely evolved past the modern warfare stuff.

And since there's no mod support to change it, I doubt I'll ever touch it.

I've got mixed feelings about 3d spotting.

On the one hand, it's nice when you're out there, no one is visible and yet you're still getting targets to shoot at. As cheesy as it is, there is some gratification to be had in snapping off some rounds at a triangle and getting a kill you didn't expect to.

But on the other, that's why it sucks. You'll be running along and ~ZIP~ you take MG36 rounds from the other side of the map because a medic is just camped out shooting at triangles until they start scoring hits.

IMO it would be a lot better if it was more range sensitive. If triangles came in and went out of view depending on your distance, your scope, your class.....something that keeps the advantages of spotting (coordinating attacks on people) while ditching some of the cheesiness (just shooting at triangles all day.)

Sadly, 3d spotting seems ripped straight from BC2. So it doesn't look like it's gotten anymore advanced. Oh and now your squad leader is identified by their own individual spotting mark....so expect that when you're spotted as a squad leader, the whole enemy teams turns to fire on your bright orange star.

Yea, 3D Spotting is a work in progress. It's here to stay in BF games :(

I wish they went back to the old minimap spotting (people still had to do some guess work to find enemies).

I'd even take something like "threat zones", that just indicate the area an enemy is in. In your game view it would be a slightly more obtrusive marker to show you how far away, and on your MM it would be a radius roughly describing their last known position. You could color the circles and markers to indicate the level of troop strength.

I can't see a valid reason to include 3D spotting in a game touting itself as "realistic". Not even on friendlies. All you should have is your eyes, your ears and your teammates to ID enemies. Much better tension and immersion that way.

This is why I want the commander back. They took responsibility for all the intra-team communication and information and it made sense. Players can't be relied on to communicate with each other or support each other, and the 3d spotting was kind of a sloppy way of ensuring lone gun men indirectly helped their teammates by helping themselves.

their last known position.

This would be already a big improvement. I always laughed when being a medic. Even in CQB I spotted them, so when they try to confuse me running behind a wall or something the 3d spotting arrow grants me the wallhack I need.
In some matches I would kill more people behind walls with spotting than the old fashioned way.

They are making me curious what the restrictions are. Are they customer restrictions or does EA just get less money with those terms compared to other distributors:confused:

From developers that aren't imaginative enough to replace chest paddles with a med kit and smelling salt, abbreviated bandaging, saline injection, or opa application animation, I'm not expecting much in terms of gameplay.
