No mod tools because they said it would be very complicated to make even basic mod tools and only delay the game further, thus in their view they think its a waste of time.

What the heck kind of sap excuse is that? "Oh our engine is too complex for you pea-brained, talentless gamers but please buy our game anyways so we can afford more mass-advertising."

Their engine hardly impresses me in the slightest and supposedly it takes oodles of processing power to package a game. If they can't be bothered to make an efficient game engine then thats just as bad as not releasing mod tools out of laziness. These are professional game developers, you shoudln't be hearing lousy excuses like that.

Maybe if they put as much money into their work as they put into media boasts about "Killing CoD" then they'd actually get somewhere with their mod tools, but alas they'd rather focus on worthless granduer than functionality. I was expecting "Battlefield 3: A timeless mod platform and sandbox multilayer shooter," not "Bad Company 3."

I loved BF2 for quite a long time, but a few years into it's release some glaring gameplay issues and imbalanced started popping up, now I can't play the game beyond the role of killing people, helicopters and vehicles utterly dominate. I'm not going to pay some ridiculous retail price for a game that I may well get bored of in a couple of months. When I buy a game, I want to be able to play it for years, and when I get tired of playing it for years then I want to download mods for it. BF2's charm wore out fairly quickly, but at least the mods were there to back it up, this is not so with BF3.

DICE has released nothing but disappointments since BF2's release and after the "no mod tools" I just cannot see myself getting any legitimate use out of BF3.

DICE never said PC would be the lead platform for BC2. They made it clear that it was going to be a port, but with PC special features.

Ahh, i see pedantry is alive and well, good show, and you are right, i worded that badly.

But no, BC2 was not marketed as "it's just a port with keyboard and mouse control, please buy it anyway though :(", it was marketed as "we totally get you PC guys, and BC2 has been made super awesome on the PC just for you, because we care sooo much about our PC fans :)".

Of course, the reality of it was something different as allways.

And since when has the Battlefield series been a staple for your dreams? It's never been realistic, never pretended to be realistic.

Yet again, you guys are complaining about a lack of realism in a series that never really had it to begin with. It's hilarious, absolutely hilarious seeing those types of responses.

edit *friggen double click*

Imo for things like immersion in a game that is trying to emulate the real world ( not a space / sci fi shooter ) any major breaks from common sence tear a gaping hole in that immersion. That immersion being synonamous for 'visual realism', which in my opinion is what they must mean every time they mention "realism" in a game like this/cod/FC2.

Realistic movement, damage, weapon ballistics ETC( We'll call this combat realism) is a totaly different realm of realism and not one that I expect to see the BF series outside of mods.

Well I'll quote myself, as things are getting quite repetitive here:

Well and they delivered what they promised? 32 players, great optimization, dedicated servers, DirectX 11 support and only thing broken was the server browser.

lol not really.

but even then, the gameplay itself should be evidence enough of its console influence.

as far as i'm concerned battlefield was nothing more than cod set in an open landscape with a bunch of easy to play vehicles for the timmehs out there.

Now that the Fault Line series are done, I hope they show us some multiplayer. I'm getting bored waiting for RO2 and BF3 to come out, almost feel like buying Brink.

People are excited because they get to play the same old map instead of something new and fresh?

Thats like getting excited for playing Apartments =3

Nothing against the map itself, but I already picture the browser filled with Apartments 24/7

I honestly have never understood why people like that map. I actually just played some vanilla BF2 recently with a friend, which is fun because the game is arcade and its fun to pwn people as a team. But when Wake Island came up we always groaned because it meant that we were going to get camped by helicopters and airplanes the ENTIRE ****ING ROUND. The only fun Wake Island map EVER was in BF1942. Period.
