No mod tools because they said it would be very complicated to make even basic mod tools and only delay the game further, thus in their view they think its a waste of time.
What the heck kind of sap excuse is that? "Oh our engine is too complex for you pea-brained, talentless gamers but please buy our game anyways so we can afford more mass-advertising."
Their engine hardly impresses me in the slightest and supposedly it takes oodles of processing power to package a game. If they can't be bothered to make an efficient game engine then thats just as bad as not releasing mod tools out of laziness. These are professional game developers, you shoudln't be hearing lousy excuses like that.
Maybe if they put as much money into their work as they put into media boasts about "Killing CoD" then they'd actually get somewhere with their mod tools, but alas they'd rather focus on worthless granduer than functionality. I was expecting "Battlefield 3: A timeless mod platform and sandbox multilayer shooter," not "Bad Company 3."
I loved BF2 for quite a long time, but a few years into it's release some glaring gameplay issues and imbalanced started popping up, now I can't play the game beyond the role of killing people, helicopters and vehicles utterly dominate. I'm not going to pay some ridiculous retail price for a game that I may well get bored of in a couple of months. When I buy a game, I want to be able to play it for years, and when I get tired of playing it for years then I want to download mods for it. BF2's charm wore out fairly quickly, but at least the mods were there to back it up, this is not so with BF3.
DICE has released nothing but disappointments since BF2's release and after the "no mod tools" I just cannot see myself getting any legitimate use out of BF3.
