BC2 ran kind of poorly on my i5, 4 gigs of ram, Nvidia 8500GTS. The card was a piece of ****, but was well within spec. I was only getting around 30 FPS at best, and levels like Atacama trashed my frame rates even worse.

I got a friend's 8800 GT, and the difference was like, seismic. My average K/D ratio per game went up like 20% just from that alone.

For the above dude's system, I dunno though. Should be able to blast that ****.

Ugh this is depressing. Well hopefully BF3 doesn't react this way.

Oh and a new interview with DICE is up.

That whole "but were dice so we know how to make battlefield games...I hope that the player will trust us that we are making the right decision" makes me a little nervous. That might be a shot at the whole no commander anger, but it might entail some other things too which makes me worried.

However, the more I hear about this, the more hope I have that it will turn out well. The fact that they did the demo on the PC restores a lot of my confidence, but the whole no mod tools is a shot in the foot. And the excuse is pretty lame too, the modders will learn how to use it regardless of how advanced it is.

And with good reason, most of the old guard that worked on BF1942 and BF2 are nolonger with the company, and they are still under EA's boot, so even if they had the best of intensions, they still must conform to EA's policies, which as we all know aren't exactly in tune with the PC community's best interests (IE, no SDK and project $10 dollar DLC, you'd best belive that one was mandated by EA).

I honestly get the feeling that Dice atleast wants to do the BF series justice with BF3, but i have my doubts they will be allowed to, due to corporate guidelines, and quite possibly a lack of understanding of what their PC fans wants (a lot of Developers thease days just don't seem to be in tune with their PC fans at all).

Either way, for thouse of you still interested in the title, i wish you luck, i think you're going to need it..

Hmmmm.

PC - 64 players
Consoles - 24 players

If the maps are the same on all three systems then we have a big problem.
You forgot about about BF2 already and how the map sizes scaled based on player counts?

To make it easier for you: No, I highly doubt we have any sort of problem with the maps in relation to max player counts between console and PC.

Weird. These are my system specs:

Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
Asus Rampage III micro-atx motherboard
Intel i7 930, 2.8 ghz quad core (8 threads)
GTX 260 896 MB graphics
6 GB DDR3 RAM
630 W Rosewill PSU
1 TB HD (forget brand)

Last time I played it I was getting pretty crappy FPS.

that PSU looks a wee bit low for a hungry quad core and a video card..

to add to this. An older computer we had in the house was running a bit slow so I popped a 7800GT in there ( this is a few years back already), that only made it run a fair bit slower, found out later the PSU could only put out 1/2 the needed juice to the card....

Ya, you're running your psu into the ground when you fire up a game. Good chance it'll fail if you keep trying to punish it like that.

Pop in a psu with ~850W, and you should be fine. (and never buy cheap/underpowered psus!)

Also, I loved this about the map scaling. Allowed for a certain level of customizability in terms of absolute gameplay. You could have the server be 24p max, but have the mapsize set to the 64p version. That allowed for more tactical gameplay, but you could also set it the other way around for an intense firefight situation. Brilliant!

Hmmm good to know. I have been suspicious of my PSU for some time. Now to find the cash to buy a new one ...

630 should be plenty. It is Rosewill - newegg's brand. I have a Rosewill PCI card for my printer and it works great. But I have no idea how Rosewill PSUs are. I will assume it is not up to par.

My Antec 500 powers an AMD 9950BE and GTX 260 fine. The same PSU powers an HD4870 with 3 hard drives, same CPU just fine to. In fact, there is still some head room left.

Don't skimp on your PSU next time! Stick with Antec.

I'll give you the brandname of the one I have at home, they are a bit more pricey but came very highly recommended. It's built like a tank ( Larger then average PSU, and better build quality) and has lasted for four years already under load from high end video cards ( 2900xt, 3870, 4870x2 as of now; and but damn did that 2900xt drink juice like it was going out of style).

I know that Rosewill PSU's are piece of crap. I didn't know that when I bought it, of course.

Antec has some nice PSU's that aren't super expensive if I remember right. Like this one:

It's just I remember booting up BC2 and being really disappointed by the performance. It downright chugged in places. Anyway, BACK TO DISCUSSING BF3. I don't want to derail this topic any more.

Source? The latest Game Informer mag said the exact opposite I believe, that most of the old guys since even the prototype game that became 1942 were still with DICE.

Yeah I thought I read that at least 70% of the team from BF1942 is still there.

That's not what i've heard, nor is it the general consensus on the BF forums. A lot of the 2142 guys should still be there however.
