I agree with the idea of a low ratio of SMGs (and other weapons) to rifles.

I hope classes are pretty limited to represent this.

Couldn't agree more. The rifle is a major force on the battlefield, when handled right. Please note the weapon supply of a normal infantry division in the Wehrmacht:

Waffen :
etwa 3700 pistols
etwa 13 000 rifles
312 machine pistols/submachineguns
90 At-rifles
435 light machine guns
110 heavy machine guns

This is the weaponry issued to a division of the 1st wave of Wehrmacht with 17734 soldiers and personel.

What I am trying to show is that MP40 should be issued very rarely, in a team of 32 players maybe 2-3 times. 1 MG and rest goes rifle. The rifle was the major weapon in war and should stay like this in the game.

Source: http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Zusatz/Heer/Infanterie-Division.htm

It says the Year 1939/40 . I assume its from the first attack on Poland.

I got a big book about ww2, maybe i find some more infos about stalingrad in there.

I'm not sure if anyone has yet to say this but as the ROHOS introduces (finally) the ability to shoot through walls/obstacles, the rifle will penetrate a lot deeper than some pistol caliber smg. Also, the MG will be really devastating weapon if they really make the wall penetration caliber dependant. IMO this alone is enough "new content" for the riflemen.

You would see about 3 MGs for 32 players, actually. German Small Unit Tactics were quite dependent on the MG as a squad's base of fire. Every Gruppe got one. While rifles were important, they really were supposed to protect the MG Sch

The only class I really like is rifleman..
I'm always playing nazi styles because I like the KAR98 so much, I hope it will all be good because I don't play anything else. :p
Of course I will tryout every class but rifleman is so awesome.. less kills.. but every kill you make (with a longer distance) makes you go 'WHOOPWHOOP'
Too bad the most rifleman are camping 24/7, I'm always running around looking for some bunnies to slay.
Balancing the weapons is a 'no-no' for me, I want them to act like they do in real life.

I have a feeling that regular riflemen's special advantage isn't gonna be some special new feature. It's probably just going to be that rifles have much more stopping power, resulting in more one-shot kills, and the ability of rifles to penetrate thicker cover than smgs

I don't want balanced weapons, I want weapons that act and behave like they do in real life.

Ya, thats what i would like to see too. Usually things are
balanced by doing rapid fire weapons less powerfull.

I would like to see that balance would be made by maps,
which offer advantage for all. As i believe Unreal Engine this time allows more large maps.

Yes i use smg mostly, because i love to sprint from cover
to cover. And i dont like that "stopping power"
balance at all.

Typical scenario is that i come from behind corner
with my smg and see rifle man in front of me and
start shooting, im able to hit few times untill that
skilled rifle man hip shoots me. And because of that
balance thing im dead he is not.

Yes, riflemens need to be able to beat smg:ers but not
in close combat.

There should be enough open areas, where they can rule the map.

Don't forget the breathing model shown in the first videos! Like most features it applies to all weapons but I guess it will be most important for riflemen. Hopefully aiming while standing will be a bit easier than before.

One of the reasons why I loved the map berlin in the mod. Was that it offered great close quarters combat for smg's to rule within the actual buildings. While offering big stretches of open streets for rifleman to fight at.

At times the smg's needed the rifleman to cross a street, or the rifleman needed the smgs to clear a building to be able to setup. Which really brought forth the importance of the different classes working together.

Which is why I would like to see more open streets. Especially as a lot of cover in the center of a road simply feels out of place. If a driver gets hit on a road or a vehicle crashes most of the time it would actually run into a wall or an obstacle at the side of a road, rather than stop right in the middle of it.

So again I hope streets will generally become open and dangerous, forcing people to run more from cover to cover at the sides of streets or through actual buildings.

Basically the way I see it is each weapon has its ideal role and style of gameplay.

Apart from something like a Semi-auto rifle that bridges styles due to it's ability to fire rapdily, if you play smart a rifle should almost always be able to win.

Stay at medium to long range with a bolt and an SMG is out of luck. Let the guys with SMGs on your squad make the charge and cover them - much more effective now due to the way the cover system works.

Of course you'll have to still get in close sometimes with a bolt - but that's where your squad comes in. Move as a group and cover eachother and it shouldn't have to be decided by who has the bigger clip.

Think most people are happy with the balance in current version, but the question was what about in RO2

I think most have raised valid points and yes some guns have had new things which will undoubtedly alter play - poping up and strafing with an smg very easly from behind cover will undoubtly change play and that gunna alter balance, as will running towards sniper now that he can drop to iron sights when you close, with these other changes altering balance away from rifles, you can understand peoples worries that the rifle will become less popular .

All we were asking is what about rifles, now at distance they will continue to be powerfull, however as Zet pointed out if there's loads of cover up streets that advantage is negated, so not only do rifles loose there advantage but they now have to cope with auto's firing much easier at them.

I'm pleased they made MG's easier to use this should make them a more popular class and give them a better chance especially if penitration works on caliber and velocity.

As rifles make up 80% of a teams players seems sensible to ask what about us - Also if it becomes a pray and spray feast gunna start having poeple TK to get smg's

When I'm a riflemen I try to stick by an assault, its called teamwork, there is no one many army, only an army made up of many individuals with specific jobs.

For the team it is often better to have a seperate long range fire team then and a short range fire team. Smg's should focus on areas where smgs are needed and rifles on areas where rifles are needed.

Grouping the 2 together, means that always one of the 2 is operating in sub optimal conditions. If you want to go all-round a semi auto would be a better solution.

Four crack riflemen are absolutely the best fire team there is, although someone who's nifty with an StG 44 is clearly going to be an asset in urban environments.
