Aztec Empire Mod

Ok thank you Jono, you're on! Loading screens would be really nice. You can use the soldier images at http://gregsandor.tripod.com/MxMil.htm (click the thumbnail for larger view)
and the buildings at http://gregsandor.tripod.com/MxArch.htm as source materials for inspiration. I have hundreds of references for this world, so if theres a detail you'd like to see, or the original Aztec art, let me know. For now, lets see what you come up with for a cool loading screen that sets the tone for the battle about to begin.

Maybe he also could take some inspiration from the game Theocracy, its set in the same timeline.

The high-res player models are ready (and then some -- I now have over 30 individual warrior types modeled.) Also many buildings are ready, (still need to UV map some, but they work.) I will make low res player models and if Tripwire upgrades RO to UT2007, can make normal maps from the hi ones.

Here's a sample:

30+ individual hi poly models and many buildings. Dont you sleep? :D

I thank the devs and players of RedOrchestra Ostfront and particularly the mod team at Darkest Hour for setting up and hosting the board.

I would like for this thread at RO to remain active; lets keep the mod moving forward.

Update:

I've just about got the code for the realistic projectile weapons ready.

Also modeled:

Atlatl (spear throwing stick) and dart
Bow and arrow
Sling and stone

The mesh models show up in game but I haven't figured out how to do the ones for the first person view.
This sounds very interesting, keep us up to date please! :D

Aztec Mod -- Call to Arms

Aztec Mod -- Call to Arms

It seems that everyone who knows anything about modding for RO is busy expanding WWII mods. On the other hand there is a great deal of interest in the Aztec Mod, and I want to deliver it.

At this point I am researching the history, writing the code, building authentic models and optimizing, UV mapping, texturing and shading them, setting up the mod architecture, making the interface icons, designing a test level that will be true to history and fun to play, and much more.

I've thought about a one day session with a group of modders who are busy with other mods but could all get together via forum or MSN or whatever to work all at once for a few hours on a Saturday:a blitz to get this project over the basic hurdles.

If you can contribute any time and energy at all, even for one-time for a few hours, I have a good enough handle on this mod that I can give you a specific part to work on with clear direction so your time will be appreciated not wasted.

Is anyone interested and available?
