Soviets were just as bad if not worse. Stalin effectively killed/starved something like 10 million of his own people, on purpose with the purges and the Ukraine famine. And of course, the event that sparked WW2, the invasion of Poland, the Soviets were just as guilty and by all rights should have been considered enemies by France/UK.
Having said that I generally will play as the Soviets because I like the Mosin Nagant more than the K98 and I usually play as a rifleman.
Just FYI discussions on which dictator was more tyrannical/which army committed more war crimes are generally discouraged and if anything best left to the history subforum.
I think what the OP was trying to ask was which faction in the game you like to play most.
I think the purpose of that rule is to ensure that threads don't devolve into fanwanks/flamewars.

i always choose axis because their weapons and uniforms are awesome.

Not entirely correct... The nazis hated definitely a lot of white people too, or just felt to be superior to the slavs, jews and mediterranean people.
I dislike National Socialists and communists pretty equally, so it's a pretty tough decision for me.

I mean nazism is pretty much the most evil ideology out there. While communism in it's "idea" actually isn't that bad. It's just that it's ehm... impossible.
But atleast communism doesnt have that awful awful thing called social Darwinism incorporated into it.

i think it mostly has to do with reputation (historically accurate or not)

I think its a mix of slightly miss-guided views of German supremacy and the fact they are a bit easy mode to be honest.
Fascism and Communism (Bolshevism and Menshevikism) are both forms of Socialism.

There is a big difference between a couple of writers believing in social darwinsm and a whole country exterminating people deemed "untermenschen".
And ehm Nazi Germany was fascist. Which you could call socialist because the state plays a large role.

Research will do you good, german technology had IR technology during the war, beginning of stealth, technology rocket. If you study the real history, and not biased (selective reading) you'll see that german and its engineers nearly created the modern world we have today.

This is only for the Wehrmacht apologists on this board who are so quick to defend Germany yet bring up any number of stats from the Black Book of Communism. I do not intend to offend anyone else who like to play Axis for other reasons, it is only a computer game...

How else do you convince an entire nation that they are the natural overlords of Europe if not through ideology? While I'll admit they weren't the blood thirty zealots forming the Waffen SS, the only members of the Wehrmacht I have any real respect for are those of the German resistance movement. Proper prosecution of the Wehrmacht was swept under the rug due to the Cold War if you ask me.
So yeah, I generally prefer playing as a Russian peasant indocrinated by Marxist-Leninist propangada. Certainly, Ivan's hands were not clean by the end of the war, but you know what they say about fighting monsters and poking out eyes...

Sorry but that's the same political BS that doesn't belong in this game.This is a game meant to be played for fun not to defend or support political views.Its sad seeing people doing this.
I play whatever side I have fun on and atm its mainly the Russian side and not because of any political reasons.Its because its the side I find more challenge on.If it was the Germans that was being team stacked against or a few map imbalances I would play them more.
I will say it again both sides did plenty of evil during ww2 and I'm not trying to justify either side.Anyone who has even been shot at in a real war will tell you that for the average soldier.Politics is the last thing on their mind when the s**t hits the fan they fought for each other.
